I find it very difficult to spend almost $200 and not get a gold nib. How much does a nib weigh? Also no piston action only a converter, they aren't the only manufacturer to do this but it would lend some cred to the pen. I have been into pens for a while now and have never heard of this manufacturer. There was another pen by a company named Bulow with an Umlaut over the u. Gave every indication it was from Europe . It was Chinese of course. If want to buy a Chinese pen that's fine but pay the prevailing rate. Check out the Buy It Now prices for large impressive fountain pens on Ebay. $10-20.00 Has anyone known this company before this Drop (ing). sorry about the rant but I am not happy with paying Gold nib prices for steel nibs.

MechansI've read nothing but positive things on Fountain Pen Network about these pens and their nibs. People are raving about how good these steel nibs are and how they compare to gold nibs in terms of smoothness. I don't feel the need to spring for the gold nib since I've read it's not terribly flexy but I don't really need flex anyway, just a solid, smooth writer. By all accounts this fits the bill. The community has only good things to say about Diplomat, and especially about this pen.

MechansAlmost any other brand and I would agree with you, but Diplomats are class instruments. I have three gold-nibbed pens (A Lamy, Pilot, Platinum), and the medium steel nib in my $75 Diplomat Esteem rivals each for smoothness. Plus, they look fantastic and take standard cartridge/converters. Also, Diplomat USA has excellent customer service and will definitely honor your Massdrop purchase. If I had the free cash right now I would definitely jump on this.
