I have 3 Diplomat pens: an Esteem, an Aero and an Excellence A. All three very well made (though the Esteem is roughly half the price, and sports a smaller nib); all three are wonderful writers. Up to you whether you think it's value for money, but these are beautifully made pens, and the steel nibs are beautifully smooth. The Excellence is definitely my pick of the three, followed by the Aero. Definitely *not* a cheap Chinese knock-off masquerading as German quality...
