Was going to wait for the highly speculated release of the Mavic Pro2 but decided join the drop for a few reasons. If/when the Mavic Pro2 is released it will most likely be at a higher price point than the current Mavic Pro, which (the fly more combo) is currently averaging around $1,300. I'm not a professional photographer or cinematographer, so I personally don't need a better photo sensor than what the Air offers, and I don't need the 4 (+/-)mile range of the pro, since these old eyes probably can't even keep the 2+ mile range of the Mavic Air in direct line of sight, as required here in the US. :-) So for me, the value for the dollar ends up with the Mavic Air.

ShelterTechI think your requirements apply to about 90% of the people who buy/bought this model. MOST people don't use all, 100%, of the features of almost all products. 1) It’s time consuming; 2) All of us don’t need all the features. Features rich products tend to be to capture a wider audience. For example, I’ll buy it because of feature X, Y, Z. You buy for features A, B, C.

Sam_Da_ManI liked the idea of the quieter running and extended flight time of Mavic Pro Platinum, but really liked the compact size of the Mavic Air. Originally the speculation that was circling around the Mavic Pro2 was that it was going to be the best of both worlds; compact size, extended flight time....etc....etc. Now the latest is that it's actually going to be bigger than the original Mavic Pro. I design houses, and plan to use it for site evaluation, and before and after pics, both inside and out. So for what I plan on doing with it. the distance wasn't an issue, the camera (from all of the content that I've seen on YouTube about it) is mostly on par with the current Mavic Pro (or at least close enough for me), so in the end for me the Mavic Air won the day, with it's compact size and smaller price tag.

ShelterTechI love shooting in HDR. I have specialized software that will merge my five fives and it gives me various outpust.
I can see HDR photos for your work, capturing the details in your design. I am considering getting a house near the beach in Puerto Rico and using this drone to create an internal and external “walk” of the beach house & the area to market the house for rental. At a minimum, it will be fun.

Sam_Da_ManWhat a great way to market a VRBO! No doubt you can keep it filled with a presentation like that! The panorama options in HDR will work well for me. I can turn them into a simulated HDRI in Photoshop and then import them into my rendering program as an environment/background image for site specific lighting and also, to show my clients their design in the exact environment it will be in. Technology is so fun! ...Frustrating as heck when it doesn't work right, but mostly fun.

ShelterTech "Frustrating as heck when it doesn't work right" Like I tell my staff, " That's how we keep our jobs. I'm a senior computer scientist to include satellite imagine software experience. Now working on financial/taxation software/architecture. I need to look up HRI in Photoshop. New one on me.

Sam_Da_ManI guess I should clarify. Basically Photoshop allows you to take a photo, make four or more copies of it, each set with a different exposure (i.e.) -2; -1; 0; +1; +2 and combine them into an HDR photo. Then I can import that HDR into V-ray and use it for both environmental lighting ("simulating" an HDRI effect) and background imagery. I usually start by downloading a Google street view image with a program called Street View Download 360, and create my HDR from that, but the downside to it is that it captures the 360 photo from the center of the street and not the center of the house, something I'm hoping to be able to do with the Mavic Air.

ShelterTechThanks for explaining. I use the latest version of Photomatix for my HDR/photo process. FYI: JUST CANCELED MY Mavic Air Combo Massdrop order!!
Who knows when they will ship. And spent the “extra” $100 on DJI.COM to get the exact combo kit, but I got it in RED. They had it in stock.
I have an event for this Saturday morning in southern Virginia over the Cheasapeake Bay I need to record/shot. The $100 savings was not worth it. Plus my son gave me a SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro Micro SDXC 275MB/s Class 10 U3 4K + USB 3.0 Card Reader. It’s a $208 gift to use with the Mavic Air. Can’t wait any longer, and their support staff could not tell me when to expect delivery. But they were super fast charging my credit card.
