A great pair of jeans begins with the denim. That’s why Doublewood Denim crafts each pair from sanforized Japanese selvage hailing from the renowned Kaihara Mill in Japan’s Fukuyama City. The jeans are first designed in San Francisco, then handcrafted in a small family-operated factory in Zhongshan, China. Each pair is made in small batches, with each tailor producing only three pairs per day. Read more about the line and Kaihara Mill below.

Made of 13.75-ounce raw redline selvage, Doublewood’s Comfort jeans cater to those who have an athletic build or prefer a more casual look. Featuring a medium rise with a straight leg, they offer the company’s roomiest fit. For those who like the look of skinny jeans but want more freedom of movement, there’s the Super Narrow fit. Made of 11.25-ounce raw redline selvage, these jeans have a medium rise with a slim narrow fit and just the right amount of stretch. Finishing details include a vegetable-tanned English bridle leather patch, which features a hand-stamped batch number, as well as an engraved rivet and selvage trim on the back right pocket. On the inside of the front left pocket is unique screen-printed information detailing the number of pairs in each batch.
Famous for its rope-dyed yarn, Kaihara was founded in 1893 as a producer of indigo dyes. But it wasn’t until 1970 that the company began producing denim. Today, nearly 50 years later, Kaihara has made a name for itself using only Pima cotton, which is respun 64 times to improve its strength, then treated with indigo dye before being made into selvage on a labor-intensive shuttle loom. The result: a super-durable denim that boasts a deeper hue but also fades faster than denim made with fully dyed yarn.
