I noticed the left arm of my chair was somewhat wiggly. Just as I was about to email dxracer to request a new left arm, I did a closer examination, and found there are 2 bolts on the bottom of the arm rest that can be tightened. The 2 on the left arm were loose. I snugged them up, and now both arm rests are rock solid.

DX Racer just released their Classic line of chairs. Had these been available a month ago, I likely would have bought one of these instead.
One of the things I really like about my DXRacer is that it's got locking seat pan tilt and at around $400, it's probably the least expensive chair you can get that is of decent quality that will give you this feature.
The Classic series has that and it has the kind or profile I was looking for at a cheaper price... not that it would have definitely been the better seat in the end, but if the flashy looks of the DX Racer chairs had you hesitating (like me), look at their Classic series.

MITKIt looks like it's out of stock again at dxracer...but you can get something similar from dxracer for 400-450...including shipping and tax. This drop wasn't an amazing deal, but I was looking at this chair anyhow, and figured I might as well save the 50$. The rumor is dxracer doesn't really go on sale.

MITKI would expect it to come back not too long from now, but you can get the all black version of this chair on Amazon right now for $399. It's more or less the same chair without the fancy quilted stitching in the seat cushion.

BTW, a little unboxing tip for those of you about to get your chairs... As soon as you unpack the headrest and the lumbar cushion, unzip and remove the foam so you can air it out. I complained about the fumes from the PU fabric making my eyes burn, but it turns out that the main culprit was the foam in the headrest and lumbar cushion... At least in my case, the foam in the headrest was particularly awful smelling. I've had my chair for about 10 days now and it's more or less aired out. It still smells a bit, but nothing I can't handle... but the headrest is still a bit much. That's getting aired out someplace with good ventilation.

By the looks of the box, mine spent a considerable amount of time in transit, it may have done some off gassing there...

OK, we have options:
Here's a crap grade replace gas spring that's shorter than the one that comes with the chair: http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Office-Executive-Cylinder-Pneumatic/dp/B00CKR0PJM/ref=pd_sim_196_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0K6CY57YM13M9VA88Y71
Here's a stabilus gas spring - it's German, but I am having a hard time finding a place to buy one, so I've emailed stabilus - 0915AR is the reference number of the one I think we want: http://www.stabilus.com/fileadmin/docs/pics_produkte/swivelChairsGasSprings/609/SOM_AD_en.pdf
The one that comes with the chair is stamped KY, which looks like typical Asian crap - not German like the marketing materials say: http://www.kygasspring.com/english/about.htm
Why is this so hard lol?

i don't find the leap chairs to be all that nice, and they are quite a bit more $ than this dxracer. they love the leap chair at my work, at least 1/3 of our chairs are leaps. i think i remember hyperlinked saying you can just leave the red accents with the knobs off of the base...

tomsheaall of the chairs at my work are leap chairs, as well as the cubicles. If they continue being a bother I was thinking precisely that, or at least grinding down the edges on them.

Ok, maybe my body dimensions don't match up with this chair, but the slope of the backrest is murder and the headrest leaves something to be desired. If you actually need a high backrest for support as I do right now, you might want to invest in one of these: http://www.relaxtheback.com/office-back-cushions/contour-lumbar-cervical-cushion.html
That cushion is invertable. Put the fat side up and you now have a wedge that perfectly supports your upper back.
The armrests are HARD. If you need to use them, you might also want to get a set of these: http://askergoworks.com/collections/tables-chairs/products/gel-armrest-covers-ga1
Well, that's gonna do about another $120 in damage. On the plus side, the chair is a lot more comfortable with that fancier upper back cushion added. My weight is distributed more evenly now that my upper back has good contact with the seat back. I'm using the seat pan tilted back around 5 degrees so proper upper back support is important. My butt was hurting before after 30 minutes.

gottcha. it may depend on your height too. In my dad's 7 series bmw, the upper shoulder area on the seats tilt independently from the seat backs - so you could tilt the seat back, then tilt the shoulder area separately to achieve maximum contouring to your back. I remember adjusting it, not thinking much of it - and then my mom got in, and she was UNHAPPY with it. That's when I learned seat comfort is highly subjective.

tomsheaThis chair is supposed to be for people up to 6'2" and I think you'd have to be even taller for this thing to line up right to offer any sort of neck support.
I don't think they intended for this to cradle your head anyway though. It's just a head rest and doesn't offer any neck or shoulder support. I was hoping it would do that since it's a high backed chair, but with a add on seatback wedge, it works perfectly and is comfortable in every position I tried it in.
Also with the added wedge combined with the lumbar cushion, it effectively reduces the seat depth by an inch or two, which will be useful for those of us who are on the short end of the chair's ideal.

Anyone have any tips on how to air out the smell from the polyurethane synthetic leather? I haven't been able to spend more than 30 minutes at a time in my new chair because the fumes coming from it are so intense that my eyes sting and water up after 20-30 minutes.

Question: Does anyone know the maker of the hydraulic cylinder they use in this chair? I like my chair to be a bit of a low rider, so I am thinking of buying a shorter one. All it says on dxracer is that it is imported from Germany.

So far I'm doing ok with just putting a short foot stool nearby so I can put my feet on it. If this doesn't cut it long term I'll resort to the cylinder switch so please do let me know those dimensions.
I think I remember removing a cylinder way back some years to make a chair easier to fit into a moving van... yeah, I do remember some serious whacking to get the damn thing out.
I'm not worried about voiding the warranty either. It'd cost an arm and a leg to ship anything back to them and I'll lose like an entire morning trying to get the thing back into the box.

Does anyone know what exactly the material on the chair is? I am seeing if my furniture guy can dye the red parts black to mute them down somewhat, but he needs to know what the material is.

tomsheaPer Hyperlinked reddit post from dxracer: The majority of our chairs are made from high-end PVC leather
Hope this helps and please give us your findings if possible!

Apathy3csSo it's a quality faux leather. It's probably something that will take dye pretty easy. My plan is to take the headrest or lumbar into a place that does dying, and see if they feel like they can confidently dye it black, or near black. I do like the red stitching though. I'll probably keep that on the black areas of the chair.
