If you get chance to hear this headphone I doubt that you'll like Th-X00 and Th-900 anymore. Because this one is correction between those two headphone and such a liquid sound.

khaja-724612I have both E-Mu Teak and TH-X00 and I prefer the TH-X00. To be honest it depends on preference and genre of music you listen to. There are certain genre E-Mu does better and certain genre TH-X00 does better (I happen to listen to those genre more). It's not right or wrong, just what you prefer. The tuning is definitely different.

khaja-724612Haha though to be honest I wonder if I'm the minority out there, I bought the E-Mu first because 99% of the review I read points towards E-Mu Teak. Then only to realize I can't live with the slightly recessed female vocal so I end up getting TH-X00. Somehow in all the reviews I read no one mentioned the difference between the forwardness in vocal between the 2 (TH-X00 being more vocal forward).
But I can definitely see why most would lean towards E-Mu Teak. :)

RebelRexFor classic music you have plenty of option. Sennheiser hd6xx, E-mu teak, audio technical ath-1000ad, AKG 712 pro are some of the best option you have. I assume that you have minimum dac/amp combo to drive those headphone. That is my biased opinion though.

RebelRexFor classical I'd definitely go with E-Mu Teak.
Classical: E-Mu Teak. Acoustic: String instruments sound better on E-Mu Teak but TH-X00 sounds more upfront and personal (E-Mu Teak sounds a bit too far for my taste). Rock: Again debatable where vocal sounds more real on E-Mu but too far for my taste, snare and drum kicks are better on TH-X00. Guitar strings are better on E-Mu but both are still way better than most headphone. Pop: Close enough on both but my pick is TH-X00. Dance/EDM/R&B: TH-X00.
For me the deciding point is string/guitar/piano sounds better on E-Mu Teak while male vocal is about the same, female vocal is a bit recessed on E-Mu Teak (which was my deciding point, I REALLY like forward vocal so recessed is bad for my preferece), snare and kick drums are better on TH-X00.
E-Mu Teak has wider sound stage and TH-X00 has closer sound stage (can be boosted to huge sound stage if you swap ear pad, though changes sound a bit). That being said, Teak cup is unique on its own, if you swap E-Mu to Rosewood or Ebony it will sound way closer to TH-X00 than E-Mu Teak.
In essence Teak sound like itself, Rosewood, Ebony, Mahogany, Purpleheart.... etc sound like each other.
khaja-724612e-mu for bassy music?

StopItGetSomeHelpFor bassy music, probably TH-X00 Purpleheart or TH-X00 Ebony. Purpleheart is more V shaped (withdrawn mid) while Ebony is more of an all rounder (good for all types of music).
Hydewhat about the teak?

StopItGetSomeHelpWhile bassy music is not Teak's selling point, it can still do bass fairly well compare to most headphones. It's just the other Fostex variants do bassy music better. However if you go with E-Mu then another option is getting the E-Mu Rosewood or E-Mu Ebony (those 2 are bassy).
I'm listening to my E-Mu Teak right now as I'm typing this message..... yeahhh...... Teak is meant to be more balanced/neutral.
Hyde id much prefer a well rounded overall sound rather then emphasis on the bass. im a gamer by heart so an overall refined soundscape is really good for the application. Ofc i love me some music as well. Thanks. while on the subject on refined soundscape in headphones, anything you would recommend bellow 1600USD that you know of? still on the fence about buying any headphone because they are all just so different regardless of price

StopItGetSomeHelpTo be honest, E-Mu Teak and TH-X00 sits pretty much at the "best bang of buck" price tier. Anything beyond that you're paying double to get 10%-15% better. If you want an all rounder that still has good bass I'd highly recommend TH-X00 Ebony (drop currently active too). While it has good bass it's actually very good in other genre as well. Teak while still good at all genre their strength lies more within classical and acoustic type of music.
That being said, since your budget is $1600 USD that actually open up A LOT of options. Do you want closed or open? Also what's your current headphone? Do you currently have any DAC or AMP? My assumption is that if you're just starting your audiophile road you don't need to jump that deep off the bat, TH-X00 Ebony is a good starting point. That being said, I've heard a lot of good things about ZMF Atticus and ZMF Eikon. Those really good and under $1600, can probably read up more about it if you're willing to go that far. :P
Hydewow! Thank you so much for staying with me. very generous of you taking your time with me like this. I actually have ALOT of headphones, three of them are serious headphones and praised throughout the community. AKG K712, i liked it but id like more width and more clean bass and to me it seemes screechy? i dont know if thats the right word but the sound made me somewhat exhausted over time. Fidelio x2, like caramel, sweet, gentle with wide soundstage and great bass! are these what they like to call warm sounding btw? ATH 2000x's SUPER clear with great imaging but no punchy bass at all. im switching beetwen the 2000x's and thex2's as my daily driver. Actually, what i was thinking in my head when i said 1600USD was i would potentially buy a preowned 1600USD headphone that would be 1000USD or below, so im willing to buy used. Thoughts friend? Thanks

StopItGetSomeHelpNo worries, I'm not too busy at work now LOL. Man you actually has a nice headphone collection. I've only heard the AKG K701, X2 and AD700. While not exactly the same but I'm hoping at least not too far off regarding sound signature, so K712 and AD2000X will be your detailed/bright headphones and X2 being the fun/bassy one.
In terms of detail, the TH-X00 Ebony will rival the detail of K712 (not sure about AD2000X but probably not far off). Bass will for sure be punchier and tighter than the X2. BUT (huge but) I noticed all your headphone are open and TH-X00 Ebony is closed so you'll lose out on sound stage hugely. So if you're used to huge soundstage you might be disappointed (although every other aspect will be better than your current headphones).
At this you can make 2 choice, either buy TH-X00 Ebony ($500) or just go nuts (keep in mind what I'm gonna suggest next will require a decent AMP/DAC like a Schiit stack or better). So if you're willing to go second hand I'll just throw you a few choices and see what you can find. As I've mentioned ZMF Atticus/Eikon are very good closed back with decent soundstage, beyond that you can look into Monoprice Monolith M1060 (look for version 2), LCD 2 Classic or even LCD X. Depending on how much you're willing to spend and what you can find you can explore around those choice. Just remember to save some money for DAC/AMP since planar are power hungry.
Ok I should stop writing it's going out of hand LOL.
HydeThose preowned you mentioned are some heavy ass cans! Dang, it needs to be bearable for extended sessions, the atticus is 570 GRAMS! DAMN! thats over half a kilo so thats not an option, the lightest audeze are almost half a kilo as well and some say they cant bare more then half an hour of that kind of weight on their neck. my 2000x's are probably 265 grams, thats half the weight lifted off compared to the planars, so planar is not an option even though i really want the audeze classics. :/ the fostex line isnt bad at all though. and i just read that the x00 mahoganny are 100 grams lighter then the ebony, thats crazy mahoganny it is, or the E-MU teak seems like better options then, remember, they need to be good over time. m1060's have frequensy ringing or something like that and i dont want to dabble with headphones that have controversy surrounding them, i just dont want to take a gamble like that unless i can listen to them before buying Thanks a lot for following me so far, very much apreciate it. You have a good day sir. oh and btw, what are the signature of the senn 6 line of headphones? i know that the 650 is supposedly more warm then the rest. Thanks

StopItGetSomeHelpLOL oh yeah I forgot to mention HD 6XX (basically 650) is currently available now that might be another good option (only $200, super cheap). I think (in my brief time with my friend's HD 650) I think they're sound similar to the Fostex variants except HD 650 has better sound stage being open and Fostex (E-Mu included) has better bass being closed. Though Teak and TH-X00 Mahogany might have a bit more treble vs the HD 650 though both pretty light headphones (Teak being lighter than Mahogany) so if you go with either of them the weight won't be an issue.
