Out of the box, you have everything you need to have a lot of fun. After I got some flying experience under my belt, I did the following:
I added a pair of VR007 goggles (https://www.banggood.com/Eachine-VR-007-Pro-VR007-5_8G-40CH-HD-FPV-Goggles-4_3-Inch-Video-Headset-With-3_7V-1600mAh-Battery-p-1134154.html?rmmds=search) for flying first-person-view. These goggles are great because they're the "box style" and I wear glasses. Note, at first I spent like 3-4 weeks just flying "line of sight". I found that to be difficult but a good experience getting my hands (and brain) wired to the control sticks/sensitivities, etc.
Next thing I did was I bought a Runcam (https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0191AJNUW/) so that I can record reasonably nice HD video (a Gopro is a better, but much more expensive, option). Video below is recorded using the Runcam. The onboard analog camera isn't great, but I wouldn't say it's terrible either. It serves the purpose of letting you see the terrain and maneuver accordingly. I just recently burnt out my video transmitter, and took the opportunity to replace the camera at the same time as the video transmitter (Runcam Swift https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01NCXEMYG and AKK Video Transmitter (VTX) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01MQ485SC). Note: the "nonsense warnings" that you read saying "don't fly your quadcopter without the antenna attached.. are actually true, the video transmitter will actually burn itself out if you don't attach the antenna. In my case I broke it off on a crash and kept flying because I thought it would be fine...

I'm probably going to join this drop to get a second X220. It doesn't hurt to have two, either to fly with a friend, or have a second one for parts when I inevitably break my current one! I figure after 6-12 months of flying this, I'll probably upgrade to a more serious $1000-$1400 setup.
