Hello there,
Are the filters replacing the normal attenuation level, or are they added on top?
EG: If I got a 14db filter will I be able to have 29 (in total) db attenuation?
Thanks,
Alex
Thanks again for joining this drop! We have submitted the group's order with the vendor for the EAR Inc. Music Filter Earplugs and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where our warehouse team will break it up into individual orders and ship them. The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 10/7.
We will keep the group updated throughout the fulfillment process. You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 10/3.

Interesting. I've only known of these types of things from V-moda, they are called Faders. The pros are that they are more affordable, you can pick different sizes, come in 3 colors and they can be attached with a string to keep them together. The same string can attach to the stylish case which is included so you can wear it around like a necklace. Also, depending on your location, they may be free to ship. The only con is that they don't offer any filters, so you are stuck with 12dB reduction. I have never own either the Faders nor the Ear ones, so I couldn't tell you which ones are better, but as a first time buyer, I might not go with these unless someone offers amazing arguments in their favor.
Which of the four filters does it come with to start?

I noticed the specs, but the specs on EARs website indicate that the filter *is* the level of attenuation. Otherwise, it would be nonsensical to list a 10db filter.

I think the DECf number is counter-intuitive to the dB attenuation. The lowest attenuation would be 14dB even if it's called DECf10, the EARinc website supports this information. Looking at the price, design and other images online, I'm more convinced the 15dB filter is what comes standard on this drop (although I couldn't find such a filter on the website), and the add-on filter options are pieces you can swap to change the amount of attenuation. I honestly don't know much about sound, so I don't know how nonsensical 10dB of attenuation would be even if they did have such a filter.

Anyone able to say if these would be a good choice for sleeping in attempt to block sound of nearby train ( not the whistle). Appreciate any comments.
JOYCEfromNS
They will help block out sound... but since they are filtered.... probably not the best choice. E.A.R. might have other choices for that purpose.
Does anyone know whether they fit in smaller ears comfortably?
Bilbin
There is a slim size available... but not in this particular drop it seems.
You need to nearly double the price to make them worth a damn for protection in loud environments. Although, the "metal container" (looks to be aluminum) seems worth the $6. Too bad you cannot get the can without the plugs.
oldgearhead
You can....go to CVS or Walmart.....they have different sizes and colors. All aluminum and about $3.99
NOTE
Looking at EAR's site, they sell these for $55 BUT do not charge extra for your choice of one dec-f special attenuation filter whereas those are $35 extra on this drop. Thus if you want to add a filter, full retail at EAR's site is cheaper!!!!
Fearlessleader
Doesn't seem to be. Seems like you can only add one pair at $55.00... Adding a different set of filters, means another set at $55.00/pr.
Most are not, that's why I asked.

"They provide a tuned, relatively flat attenuation response, that keeps the music nature sound while maintaining clarity of sound with full music dynamics."
What's the expected attenuation across the frequency range?
phiz118
If you look near the bottom you should see the attenuation ratings for each filter model. I'd hope that attenuation is constant across the frequency range.
