Ll_FBuy disposable. For the price of these you can get 30 pairs and not have to worry about safely cleaning them.
SchuylerCheap earplugs are fine for doing construction or industrial work. However disposable earplugs cut out too much high end, but not very much low end. So you get a very bad picture of the music if you are wearing them for live music.

CalaverasgrandeIf you're wearing earplugs at a concert you're either too old, on staff, or following a tour. Besides most of those systems are balanced like crap anyway.

rgrwkmnYup, even have it from an idiot unloading a pistol inches from my head. Unless you're basically pushing your head into the speakers, hanging out there for hours on end, or at a stadium show you aren't really risking permanent hearing damage with less then 1 show a month.

SchuylerWhy are you even defending your comment? People need to use ear protection and there are a lot of good reasons to use it. OP, personally I would recommend Westone WR20 or Etymotic ER20.

treal512Because people think earplugs like these are actually useful. Both the earplugs you recommended have a NRR of less then 20, with a rating of 20 you get a total decible reduction of 6 (NRR rating minus 7 then divided by 2) which means these give you an extra 15 minutes of safe listening at a loud concert (120 decible) which brings your safe listening time up to a total of 30 minutes. Also I did it to entertain myself because people took the joke seriously and ignored the point that loud concert speakers are balanced like crap and using balanced earplugs so you can hear crap balance anyway is pointless, big concerts aren't about the quality of the sounds it's about the experience of listening to the music you enjoy performed by people you like, with a pile of other people there to do the same.

CalaverasgrandeCheap earplugs are NOT good for industrial work. They hurt like hell after just a couple hours of continuous use, they also don't fit well at all. They have to be constantly readjusted and taken out and put back in. In a ten hour shift I'm spending at least 45 minutes total just screwing around with my cheap foam earplugs
kurt_mcdonaldI guess you have snowflake shaped ears? I've worked in construction, food production, beer bottling and kegging and in all those cases, I'd rather have some cheap high NRC plugs than expensive, hifi, low NRC plugs.

CalaverasgrandeMaybe you just don't give a shit about quality. Dollar Stores are very popular among people that can't afford real stuff. Don't feel bad, most people fall under this category

kurt_mcdonaldMight want to consider asking your boss to spend the 2 pennies more per for the style with those little wing nubs on the back end. The other trick to properly fit your plugs is to pull up on the top of your ear, this straightens out the first bend in your ear canal and makes proper expansion easier, also if your ears are hurting you're probably pushing them to far in.

CalaverasgrandeTo be fair, those square cut little cylinder plugs are about as uncomfortable as wadding brown paper towels in your ear. They're also only really meant to be worn for 2-4 hours rather then a full 10 hour shift.
Schuylerit depends on the genre of music. I am a fan of metal, punk, and industrial acts. All of which tend to the louder side. Rock, jazz, country etc all tend to stick to modest SPLs, and as you move up to higher quality venues, the SPLs actually decrease, because they have better sound systems that dont have to melt your face trying to reach the whole audience.
