dv8erHello my new friend,i'd probably have to say the Klipsch R-15pm when on sale.( $244.99 ) @ a Best Buy near me. I'm not knocking the Edifiers at all, these are good speakers. People say the Klipsch's are alittle bright, but after alittle break in period they warm up nicely.Adding a sub ( which I have already ) makes it even better sounding.I've not heard the Edifiers, they say you don't need a sub? I don't know about that?? To each his own I guess. But hey thanks for asking the question .Like in all Electronics everything is debatable.( lets not even talk about speaker wire! lol ) Take care!

abarginhunterpro7Interesting. I was actually looking at the R-15's as well, but as you said, they seem to need a subwoofer. If that is the case, the cost of the woofer should be included in comparing them to the S1000DB. Everything I have read points to the Edifier lineup having ample bass to not require a woofer to sound great in that department.
Still, I'm not sure how you can say "Much better out there for less money" if you haven't heard the Edifier to compare. Is this your opinion or someone else's? From all the reviews I've been able to find on the Edifiers and Klipsch, the Edifiers consistently come out on top.
I do wish there were more reviews available from people who have compare them together. I've been researching options, and currently I've narrowed it down to either these S1000DB, the Edifier R2000DB, or JBL 305.

dv8erAfter careful consideration,id have to agree with you. There just aren't enough comparisons ( professional ) to go by.And yes all reviews I've read said these are terrific speakers.( Edifiers ) " Much better out there for less money"........ a quick read @ $300 bucks sounded high, but after reading reviews myself and not listening to the choir around me I have concluded, that right now these could be the better of the litter.! CHEERS!

Jimster480That is the one currently on top of my list, and has been the one I'm most likely to pull trigger on.
My qualifications are: good sound (obvious), ample bass without a separate woofer, and <$300 as that is my max budget for bookshelf speakers. They can be either powered or passive. I've been slowly looking at reviews here and there for about a month now, and I still have it narrowed to Edifier (S1000DB or R2000DB) and JBL LSR305.
The Edifier have bluetooth and a lot of great reviews for how they sound. The JBL have more reviews on them from people that review audio all the time, and especially have more reviews that compare them positively to competitor speakers in the <500 price range. They don't have Bluetooth, if that matters to you.
I just noticed that these now have a $275 price if enough buy in. That might be enough for me to pull the trigger. JBL would be ~$280 shipped, which puts them fairly head-to-head. Or maybe I'll give my wallet a good gut-punch and just buy both to compare them myself. Time will tell...
Without hearing any of them, and if they were all the same price, my choice would be Edifier S1000DB > JBL LSR305 > Edifier R2000DB

abarginhunterpro7I have the Klipsch R-15pm. They're definitely a forward sounding speaker, although break-in certainly does help in that regard. (Although I'm never sure how much the speakers break-in, and how much my ears adjust to their sound.) A quoted price of $245 is definitely a good price on them. They're voiced reasonably flat, and don't have that cheap-sounding mid-range bump that so many small-ish speaker systems have; the flip side is that they require a sub.
Where the R-15pm's shine is their plate amp. I really like the auto-sleep feature, where they'll auto-wake up from any of the inputs that I've tried. I use it w/ an Amazon Dot, and it's my daily alarm clock / bedroom system. I sleep about 9 inches from them, and they're dead quiet when not in use.

Ss-AudioI have both the R-15PM and the S1000db. The Klipsch can create some really great imaging, sitting right on them, thanks to the tweeter/port design, but the Edifier S1000db have much more detailed highs. Both need a subwoofer though. It's unfortunate the Edifiers don't come with a sub-out, but an input splitter someone could make due. The build quality on the S1000db is much higher than the R-15PM. I was surprised at how cheap the R-15PM feel and look in person.
