P1MPBOT5000+1 And this is obviously a clone of it anyway, look at the hand-piece and its connector. A few interesting bits of info on the Hakko gleaned from going through every review on Amazon and forum posts on EEVBlog and other sites while doing my still ongoing research on this model which I will definitely be getting soon. The final QC on the FX-888D is done in Japan even though they are manufactured in Malaysia. They have so few hardware repair warranty issues because of how well it is made that Hakko keeps only one repair person on hand for all of the East Coast. All the Hakko tips are made in Japan, are pre-tinned and they actually have a patent on the metallurgy R&D they use in making their tips which are well-known for lasting a long time with little basic common-sense maintenance.

nikonf5If the FX-888D is in my budget I should get that instead of this then right? Im looking to build a keyboard and I have like 8 rpi's just sitting in my room unused so I'm going to do some rpi things too or would this be overkill

Sebastian29Answer to your question is, hands down, a resounding 'yes' Coincidentally, those are the exact same reasons I was/am looking for an iron when I started my search. I would seriously advise you to download the manuals for the 888 from both the hakko worldwide AND the US website as there is information missing in one that is present in the other and vice versa. Read them both and understand how the button controls work so when you get it, you don't accidentally re-calibrate it when all you wanted to do was change the temperature and it also tells you how to enable the presets function, etc. The above is highly recommended to the point of being almost mandatory.
