JPreiswhat was i thinking too. looks exactly like CAL with a wood chassis. considering emu is owned by creative now (or at least one point), could this be?

PxORThis appears to be exactly that. If you read the innerfidelity review on the CAL! you'll get the history that the CAL! is the reincarnate of the Denon AH-D1001 using the same Foster (Fostex) driver with a slightly modified chassis. When Creative went off their rockers and started making the CAL!2 I'm guessing they sold (or transferred) the production of the same headphone to someone who did yet another slight respin on the same design.
At the same time though, wood sounds good, so this might be a good change. I'd have to hear it to know though.

HeeftyFoster always made the entirety of the headphone for both Denon and Creative (drivers, headband, cable, cups... everything). The D1001 and CAL!1 were actually made at the same time (I briefly owned both, just to see if the CAL! sounded different, they didn't). There was also another company that made a weird multicolor version that was also identical, I can't remember the name though. The differences Tyll noticed between the CAL! and D1001 ended up being due to model to model variation more than any difference in the model's overall sound. With the E-MU Walnut it looks like Foster makes everything, except the cups, which E-MU sources out, and the packaging. Creative didn't need to sell or transfer any rights, as any company who wanted could have ordered this headphone from Foster for roughly ten years now. There have been at least 4 different companies to use it, most of which overlapped. Denon famously cut ties with Foster, leading to the complete trash the the Denon headphone line became. Creative still uses Foster for most of its headphone needs (E-MU is owned by Creative).

fjrabonThanks for clarifying. I didn't realize that there was a time where the two product lines overlapped. I thought the Denon line had ended before Creative took up the reigns.
