However, upon taking inventory of everything available, our vendor was made aware of an unexpected backorder affecting a small handful of units. Rest assured, we're working closely with the vendor to resolve this hiccup and expect to have the remaining units prepared for shipment shortly.

Kicker 7fl and 10fl model was teased at Summer OR, that's why these are on sale. Enerplex is a subsidiary of Ascent Solar. Ascent has a pioneering "CIGS Solar-on-Plastic" technology baked into the next gen and it is impressive. The 2017 10fl (9 watts) comes in a just over 6 oz. That is the lightest 9 watt panel on Earth. I've held it in my hands and it's cool. I'll be waiting.
I got the Anker 15w USB Solar PowerPort with dual USB chargers, which is 3 times as much wattage as this one, for $49.99 at Amazon plus free shipping with Prime.

I got the anker solar charger maybe two years ago. LOVE it. I have it hanging in a window charging an anker 10000 mAH battery and a radio/flashlight/survival thing. I have a amp/watt read out device inline between the solar and the device being charged. Cant wait for the next gen of solar to come out.
just short of unusable output.
Our reviewer loved this for its light weight, compact size, and durability - you can puncture the thing and it still works. However, the amperage and wattage are low, especially for today's phones. http://engearment.com/electric/enerplex-kickr-iv-solar-charger/

So I see the assumed conclusion that they could be punctured. The only power stats I see are its 1.2 amps at 6 watts, nothing about that being 'low' or by any means anemic in the grand scheme of things. Either way, no tests were done at various angles to see what its real world output is? No multimeter handy?

Well, to be fair, anemic is not the word I used. But, today's smartphones charge faster at 2.1A than at 1A. The Enerplex is not capable of that much current. Our tester probably did not have a multimeter handy. However, I like your suggestion! I'll try to steal the Kickr from him and see how it does at various angles, intermittent clouds, etc. I don't think I can get permission to stab/shoot it, though.
Makes more sense to me to use a backpack with the solar panel built in, like www.eclipsesolargear.com. That's what I use- I have a battery pack (10,000mAH) connected to the panel, and the panel keeps the battery charged. When I need it to recharge a phone, the battery pack does it at a normal charge rate for the phone. And since it's a backpack, I don't have to carry anything additional, and I don't have to deploy a panel to use it.
But you would be stuck using only that backpack to maintain functionality. Solar panels like this are suitable in a lot of other places, including those who already own decent packs.
Just a small comment on using solar chargers efficiently - it's usually recommended to use them to charge a battery pack or similar, and then use the battery pack to charge your phone or similar.
This may seem strange, since you'll lose some power through the conversions, but the reason is that smartphones (and definitely *pads) are finicky when it comes to charging current. Hence, if you don't have perfect, sunny conditions your phone will probably not charge constantly from the solar panel, but will go "charging - not charging - charging" continously depending on input.
Battery packs tend to be easier to charge, or have less sensitive electronics, so they'll fill up much faster. Then they provide a steady current to charge your device.
Also, this means you don't have to leave your smartphone by the solar panel for hours.

Completely agree. Unless you are in an emergency.

I used this for a 6 day hike in Australian summer. I can say that there is no way known that this charges anywhere near as quickly as a wall outlet. Probably not even half as quickly. I was charging an iPhone 6s and had clear skies and kept the panels angled optimally to mid day sun. It did get the phone charged eventually, but their claims are completely false. With some further research I have since found that there are cheaper panels that seem just as well constructed and have a higher amperage output, which I assume will mean faster charging.

For £25 I got a 20W panel this is over priced.
Can someone please tell me why a panel this big only can generate 6.5W power? Low quality/efficiency energy convert rate? I have a panel same size and doing 12W with 2.15A and waterproof!!
MakBarb
This panel uses powerfilm cells. They are made with laminated plastic. They aren't as efficient by size. However, they weigh much, much less than traditional glass cells. They are also much tougher. Both great qualities for techie hikers like myself.

Weather-resistant doesn't mean water proof right? so i assume that it isn't made for rain.
I never understood why manufacturers make solar chargers with black material/covers! Solar cell efficiencies drop with higher temperatures. Why use a dark material that's only going to get hotter in the sun?

I would venture to guess that this is 100% engineered by marketing: black is perceived as more high-tech, and a 10% happier user with a 10% less-efficient charger is a winner from the marketing perspective!
Totally agree on that comment, and that's the issue with black, it increases much more the temperature of the cells, which is really bad for efficiency (In houses photovoltaic panels, there is a gap between the roof and panel to cool down the cells with air convection). And to be honest, I think white is really much more attractive for users, and it also gives the highest possible color efficency, but key, the coloring surface exposed to the sun seems really small, so I'd be really surprised if the efficency loss is higher than 1%...
Not to nit pick, but this is $69.86 on Amazon with Prime shipping ( http://www.amazon.com/EnerPlex-KR-0004-BK-Portable-Charger-Smartphones/dp/B00FPHKOPY ), not sure I see the value MassDrop is brining here....

Ya, from what i've seen on MassDrop this can be a common occurrence, there will always be a little exaggeration with the MSRP
Dont waste your money, 6.5 watts is a joke, you need a panel with at least 15 watts to charge modern phones. This panel MAY charge something with no clouds and at noon.
I picked up one of these panels recently. They're pretty nice. They have a good flexibility to them unlike goal zero folding panels. However, side-by-side to a goal zero nomad 7 plus it actually charges a little slower (goal zero is 7w and this EnerPlex is 6w). The difference is very little tho (about 1 minute longer per every 10% of battery). The weight is pretty good at 294g (bare minimum).
Good news, group. We’re glad to report that all of the orders have been shipped out from our warehouse and are now on the way to you. Please allow 24-48 hours for tracking to get into the shipper's system and start updating.
