Why is a titanium nib a good idea? Its properties are pretty far from the malleability of gold - doesn't seem like a titanium nib would wear in like a gold nib.

larsvIt's not fair to comapre Ti to gold. Of course if you have the option to go gold then it's not even a choice at that point (unless you want the consistency of the material of the nib with the pen - which can be a thing for some guys)
Malleability, compared to steel, this is much, much more springy... so it can be classified as a semi-flex in some regards (again your mileage may vary) but my experience with Bock Ti nibs is that they are pretty flexible compared to the stiffness of steel nibs.

larsvIt has a standard bock nib. You can replace the titanium nib with a Stainless or Gold one, there are retailers that sell just the nibs. http://www.beaufortink.co.uk/
