Guys, I need some help here. $40 for two pieces of low carbon steel barely heat treated with a couple of edges ground in?! This is like an $8 item; what am I missing? Or have we all lost our minds?

KengKeng, yeah, it's like those people buying a watch for more than $100 when they can get one of those great Timex Weekender watches for under $40. They do exactly the same thing, those watches. Crazy people!
Just kidding.
I guess it should be an $8 item. But unless someone else offers something that performs the same task for less money, this is the only game in town. And then the question becomes: is it a reasonable price for what it does?
Of course, you could make it yourself. But I wager that for most people, the cost in time, material, and tooling would cost a lot more than the ~$20 per bar this works out to.
Made in USA, too. I bet the cost could come way down if it were made in China. A lot of folks value US manufacturing, so higher cost is the trade off you pay for US manufacturing.
