Okay, a brief update. I've been playing with the ErgoDox quite a bit. One thing that makes the thumb keys much better is TENTING. I just used some kinesis v3 lifters, cut off their tips to make them smaller, and used some powerful velcro to affix them. Makes the ErgoDox MUCH more useable for my smaller hands.
If you are interested in the lifters, look for them on Kinesis's site, Amazon, or, if you're in Canada, shopRBC worked for me.

I also did a little bit of a paint job... but I'll have to update once the lighting is good enough to take a picture!
Finally, I'd like to share my layout. It is a QWERTY layout with a switch to Norman in case I'm not on my own system. It features shift as a thumb key, as well as a little bit of balancing I felt was lacking from the stock layout. I added back Ctrl and Shift for when I'm playing games with the left hand. https://www.massdrop.com/ext/ergodox/?referer=XTPMJK&hash=128337ae2c84138b3e062bfc77ba2bf5

morintedNice idea. I think I'm going to give it a try. I think a potentially easier and less expensive way to tent this would be to just replace the screws with longer ones that will stick out through the bottom. Just fasten an extra nut on it so that the screw will still hold the case together and then use the cap nut on the end with a rubber piece affixed to it.
Of course, getting the length of the screws right will be tricky. I haven't tried this yet so I don't have any other suggestions on how to best do this.
