I'm kind of interested, but I find the lack of F keys to be a disappointment. I've researched the whole thing about layers in the configurator to have F keys available, but is that really an optimal solution? How do current owners feel about that? Also, is there some attachment out there to set up a slant for the ErgoDox?

silverthornneI would suggest using threaded standoffs for slanting.

JohnBoyThat's not a bad idea; those are cheap enough.

silverthornneHonestly, I don't use the function keys very often. When I do need to use them, since they're mapped the same as the number row (with F11 and F12 where the 'q' and 'w' keys are in qwerty), they're easy to hit while holding a layer toggle with my thumbs. But after reading about the various layouts people use, I think my layout is rather different than what other people do.

silverthornneWell I’ve just put them on the bottom row / top row of the thumb cluster.

nomadedGuess I'll try to survive with them on a separate layer. I just use them a lot when testing out software at work since we have some legacy systems that require a bunch of F keys with modifiers combinations. Anyway, I'm very excited about this drop and already ordered some Kinesis V3 lifters! I'll probably also purchase a Kinesis numeric keypad, the one with the Cherry MX Brown's. I currently use a Microsoft Sculpt and place the numeric keypad on the left so I'd be doing the same when I go ErgoDox.

silverthornneSince you're getting the fullhand case, I would suggest the VIP lifters instead of the V3 lifters. The two are different. I didn't realize this when I got my first ErgoDox (fullhand). The VIP lifters are longer, and will span the front to back distance of the fullhand. The V3 lifters are shorter, and work better with the classic case.
For both lifters, there are some bits of plastic that stick up -- they're used to attach to the Freestyle keyboard. These bits get in the way of attaching to the bottom of the ErgoDox. Use a dremel, or a small handsaw to remove these bits of plastic.
