To anyone who is familiar with ESEE knives - How is the out of the box sharpness of the ESEE-6, and how well does keep that edge? I am newer to the knife community, so I don't really have the tools to refine edges and maintain them. This knife looks amazing to carry with me into the woods wether I am hiking or hunting, and I would love some feedback! Thank You!

casemartin12They are excellent; built with real quality and ready to cut/ chop right out of the box. This is a survival knife, so it is made from a high carbon steel. It will hold an edge, but only after so much abuse. High carbon steel, while hard and durable, is made to be soft enough to be able to sharpen on a flat stone in the wilderness should one ever be stuck in a survival situation. Stainless steel will hold an edge longer, but good luck trying to sharpen it on a stone if stuck in the wild. This is why high carbon steel is preferred and the Esee line of knives are top of the line.

casemartin12Go buy a medium grit whet stone. For maintaining your edge. At a bare minimum.
