The "Camp Lore Black Oxide" aka... ESCR25BO or CR 2.5 BO is not a new knife but the finish is their new stonewashed / Black Oxide finish on the blade. It's the same finish they started out using with the new PR4 and now being used on the entire Camp-Lore line. You can find the NON-black oxide 2.5 for the same same price as Massdrop if you look really hard and maybe a few dollars cheaper on eBay if you watch and wait. overall the price on here with shipping is $5-$10 cheaper than I could find on the new finish. I have always used an ESEE 4 and 6. I attended one of the training classes last year and Patrick Rollins let me used his PR4 and the 2.5. I liked the PR4 right off. Surprisingly the 2.5 was very handy and surprised me.

Erik1Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Actually, I agree (I prefer the larger two) but function over form.
Illinois_knife_guyAs of 02/12/18: Edit to relfect price change 02/14/18: The RB3 is being sold on Amazon for $104 --- That's $14 cheaper than Massdrop after shipping Sold on KnifeWorks for $96 after shipping -- That's $22 Cheaper than Massdrop Sold on KnifeCenter for $122 - That's $4 more expensive than Massdrop and Sold on BladeHq for $130 - Thats $12 more expensive than Massdrop
The other knives may be cheaper at knifeworks but only if you can find one (these knives can be hard to get because they may be discontinued).
MassDrop lowered their prices to a fair and competitive price in 2 days. Proof that they read these comments.

Illinois_knife_guyAs best as I understand, the Rowen is a bird and trout knife, the Gibson is a skinner, and the Bolieu is a mini-bushcrafter? It's nice to have ESEE branch out from the survival/tactical gimmick. But I don't see what these knives can do that makes them worth a half-dozen Moras a pop. Or more. Feels like you're paying for the brand and the heavy-duty tang, a feature which seems kinda unnecessary on knives of this size.

The price on the RB3 is not a deal by any means.

Ay, that description. 1095 is not stainless. The black oxide coating will not protect your hardened steel blade from nicks. You absolutely should not carry your knife by a lanyard instead of a sheath: the lanyard is for handling the knife, not carry.

Error!! 1095 is not a stainless steel.
"The blades are made from 1095 stainless steel with a black-oxide stonewashed finish to help resist corrosion and any nicks you might put on them"
