I once bought a pair of these for $80 at the JFK airport. That was 8 years ago. Only recently did the cable begin to wear out after some super heavy usage carrying them around in my pockets on a backpacking trip. One of my favorite single driver IEMs. Recommend for those who like neutral frequency responses and clarity. The tips go in very deep into your ear and for some people it might not be comfortable. Pick up Shure olives or Comply tips.

UnaSalusVictusI was planning to trade in for er4pt or er4xr as well. For other people, this is the special purchase option https://www.etymotic.com/support/out-of-warranty-and-special-purchase-options

NachiYou can send your Hf3s with the damaged cord back to Etymotic, and they will replace them with a new pair at a substantial discount. They are a really great company.

stephen.scharfI'm planning to stretch its life more before I pay for a new pair or an upgrade because other than the cable, everything else is perfectly functional. Right now I'm just using heatshrink tubing. Liquid electrical tape is also on option.

NachiNo worries, Nachi, just lettin' ya know that when the day comes that the cord wears out or fails completey (and it will, because mine did), Ety will sell you a new pair at a considerable discount if you return the damaged pair to them. Pretty good customer service if you ask me.

Nachitry F4 tape, it only sticks to itself and similar materials, i use it to fix alot of cords because it never gets sticky or comes undone once its stuck to itself its stuck to itself.. :)

stephen.scharfthats what he linked, click it, you can buy a bunch of them at a very nice discount trade in cost, why we both want to grab er4 models, they are ety's flagship, and have been since..like, the 70's...and are still one of the best iem's on the market...more then a few people i know got ACS tips for their hf5's then upgraded to er4pt's (Because with the impedence adapter they become er4s's but, without it, you can easily drive them with just about any decent player or cell phone..)
