ashirakiFTW2 I believe has the icx cooler. Which is a slightly better cooler and a split back plate so there's not heat transfer from the gpu side of the card to the other side.
So I did some research...:
0) Nivdia is rumoured to be releasing the next Gen Turing card with DDR6 in late July18.
1) if you are in USA, right now there are other vendors that offer mail-in rebates ($20-$30) to leverage on a variety of cards for the month of May18.
2) For others, like mentioned by many below. This card is the downtuned one. For $10 more at other vendors, you can get the full FTW2.
3) For international buyers like myself, I would only get this if
a) there is International warranty.
b) if there is a way to avoid tax at customs.
c) if for some strange reason a DT card is specifically needed.
I joined the drop earlier but cancelled, unless 3a) and 3b) conditions can be fulfilled.
I have a regular FTW2, not the downtuned one, and it let's me rip through games at 1080p maxed out and most games acceptable at middling settings at 4k. Granted I got mine before the huge Bitcoin push, so I got a deal around 540 for the true FTW2.
These DT are probably similar to the SSC clocking, and you probably have some headroom to overclock it a touch.
Sucks that mining rig building has done all this to the supply and prices.
MmmBananasLooks like 3 weeks after the end of the drop. Takes longer than a couple days from Massdrop because they don't have quantity on hand to fulfill orders prior to that date. Sort of the essence of a 'group buy'.
This is a MEH price. Not horrid but the fact that you wont get it right away is what it stupid(yes I understand how Massdrop works). Newegg has multiple 1080s cheaper.
Cyphre, that statement is not entirely accurate, because courier companies pretty much always either add illegitimate charges that are not actually import taxes but which are presented under the false pretense of such, and/or they charge taxes every time no matter what, even though the customs agents of the given country would often choose not to charge taxes even if they technically have the right to do so.
In other words, courier companies screw over the consumers by arbitrarily forcing them to shell out more money that they otherwise wouldn't need to if no courier company was involved.
Massdrop and other retailers could solve that problem and do their non-US customers a huge service by allowing USPS as an option for international delivery, because in that case the "import taxes" the customer pays, or doesn't, would always be fair & legitimate, and a lot of times the customs agents would use their discretion to let taxable items pass through untaxed.
Even when massdrop has an actual good deal, people still complain. But because I'm pretty sure that $580 is less than $650, I may have to jump on this one.
