I used to have both the Carbon Fiber and Leather version of the pen. The nibs are hands down some of the smoothest western fine nibs I have used (bock-made). However the main thing I didn't like about the BASIC is that they felt a bit unbalanced, and it was a little too easy to get ink around the front lip of the grip (or worse if you managed to get a drop in between the ridges of the grip), doesn't work with every standard international converters (most would either not go in all the way or would be too loose for the nipple) and the BASIC do not come with their own branded converter you have to buy those separate.
The bottom-less barrel is nice for easier cleaning with an aqua bulb, also the nib unit can be unscrewed from the grip.
I would probably get one again if the carbon fiber or leather version were the $30 price as opposed to needing to add $9 for them (not enough of a discount to justify it for me).
