I bought this about a year and a half ago. Initial impression was very positive, but I'm quite certain mine had a defect as the threaded knob which attached the head to the handle was at a weird angle and difficult to actually screw on at times.
I persevered, but yesterday the threaded knob actually snapped right off.
I tossed it in the trash and happily ordered a Viking from Amazon which was cheaper, looks better, and feels far more sturdy than this.

luminousllamaYou received a defective example of this product, but instead of contacting Massdrop support for a replacement, you kept it, used it until it fell apart, and threw it out. Why didn't you just get it replaced when you realized it was defective? Speaking as someone who has returned a defective product to Massdrop a couple of times, they're really good about taking care of those kind of issues. You'll either get a replacement or your money back. Every time. It's frustrating when you want the product but all they can give you is a refund, but you didn't even try to get either? That's on you, not on Feather or Massdrop.

If any of you have had this razor shipped to the UK, can you give me an idea of likely delivery charges and customs charges, trying to work out if it is worth my while buying from here or a stockists closer to home

Someone please explain to me the benefit of having 100% stainless steel for $145 (AS-D2) vs pot metal for $36 (Viking Chieftain)

You see the same comments about pretty much any enthusiast product offered on Massdrop: "This costs too much". If you're interested in trying a safety razor (something that takes double edge razor blades instead of cartridges), but think this one costs too much, then I'd suggest starting with a Merkur 34C. They're inexpensive, readily available, will last a reasonably long time if kept clean, are pretty forgiving for new users, and are generally well regarded.
I suspect you're misjudging the manufacturing tolerances in the process used to machine this razor's head. For Feather to produce this with a blade gap of 29 thousandths of an inch, consistent from side to side and razor to razor just might take more expensive machining than the car parts you're thinking of. Dimensional accuracy is what tends to make machining expensive.

I have a small collection of safety razors that I am in the process of pairing down. I assure you though that while it is not my favorite razor it is the only razor that I am sure I will NEVER nick myself with (it would take a total lapse in concentration). I will not be able to delete my AS-D2 from my collection.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this to you, I have heard some complain about how mild this razor is, but it is also quite efficient. If you don't feel like a man unless you are scraping a beast of a razor across your chin this is not for you, on the other hand if it is a smooth comfortable shave that you are after you could do a lot worse.
I get that it is a bit on the expensive side but as long as you can still find blades for it your grandchildren could use it the build is so good.

For years I used many different types of Razors that were from $10 to $75, and honestly had never been truly satisfied as I continued to spend money on different handles, I decided to purchase this Feather AS-D2 Razor with the stand a couple years ago, I can honestly tell you that this is the last Razor I will purchase for the rest of my life, it gives me a very clean shave every single time, of coarse I use Feather blades and since I like the blades very sharp when I shave I usually get 2 very sharp and smooth shaves per blade, getting back to the Razor, since I started using this Razor my skin has gotten a lot smoother and no longer have the bumps I used to get with other Razors, there is a learning curb (several shaves) with this razor, if you're a shave enthusiast and are willing to put the time I'm sure you will love this razor too, I can assure you that my razor because of the craftsmanship it will be passed on to my son/grand kids down the road if you know what I mean. trust me the $134.99 price is worth every penny....

I have owned this razor for a few years now. It was $175 when I bought it off amazon and worth every penny. It's solid stainless steel and pretty much indestructible. Pretty much pays for itself bc of how inexpensive the blades are. How much do ppl drop on Gillette blades every year? I use Aster brand blades bc they work best for me and they are cheap. I use this razor mostly to do the bald fade part of my haircut which I do about once a week. Again saving money from not going to the barber which usually runs me about $50 for a cut and shave plus tip. I own the Feather straight razor also which is my go to for face shaving but I have used this razor, if I forget to buy more straight razor blades, for that purpose and works just as well. It's got a good weight, but i wouldn't call it overly heavy. There is a learning curve to these types of razors though. You get a superior shave, but you need to know what you're doing but easy with a little practice. Last razor I will ever buy.

I don't care how much money you have, it's literally insane to spend this much for a double-edge razor. You can spend one third the amount and have an amazing quality razor e.g., Viking, Merkur etc.

robbert.jansenRazorock has solid stainless, very high quality razors for $50-$70.
$150 or more is ridiculous for a razor when there are far better options out there. Having said that, though, $150 on a razor you'll be using multiple times a week for years and years is negligible so even with the higher priced razors it's not as ridiculous as spending money on cartridge razors.

- it shows actually 101 requests. Is there a minimum cap to reach?
- if the answer to the previous is no, roughly how many times a year (or in which particular period) will the drop becomes available?
