I like this razor a lot. That said it’s in rotation with a half dozen other DE safety razors and I also like to shave using a rotation of various straight razors. The main attribute of this razor for me is it’s the only DE safety razor I’ve ever used where I can shave ATG between my nose and upper lip, and I’d be remis if I didn’t mention that to me, this is an area on my face I pay special attention to while shaving as it’s very tricky for me anyways, to shave closely there

PACougAt this point I'm through dropping any more coin on DE razors. I realize there are other, perhaps better choices yet I'm quite content with my current arsenal. Same goes for straight razors, I have plenty of fine straight razors (approx. 80, mostly vintage) but there are a couple of big name straights I've yet to shave with like the Spaniard's (Jose Mont)
I'm getting off topic though I wanted to mention my last two shaves and the razor of choice for both...a late 40's Gillette Tech, the fist blade was a Derby and not a bad shave for me but the last shave with this tech I popped a Feather blade in it. The result was an outstanding shave. The feather worked so much better, a closer shave with fewer touch ups, now I really like this razor and know how to get the most out of it. One could argue, why shave with anything else? The answer is because there are other razors to choose from
I bought an Ikon Slant from another drop on here. Sorry to say I'm too ignorant to recall which model it was. Wait!, I can look up the past transaction...well, no specifics were given, other than I purchased it in December 2016. IMO, it's not the type of razor to use if you don't pay attention to what you are doing. IOW, you can nick yourself right proper if you're not on your toes, but shave with it cautiously, and with not too much growth and it can deliver a very close shave

sorry, but I digress...I now have to show you, my first ever straight razor. I still have it BTW
FWIW the blade is stainless steel, and not a bad shaver in it's own right

Trying to get this sort of, back on topic...my first DE rig, a used Shick Krona I purchased from a fellow member (Badger & Blade). That was a nice shaver, starting out. I was going through my shaving paraphernalia looking for this razor and couldn't find it. I did however come across a newer Krona and shaved with it. Wasn't a bad shave but I for get which blade I used with it. Apologies in advance if I bored anyone with my prose=:-)

shakin_jakeI must say, keeping that many straights in top condition would be quite a chore. I bought a Dovo barber notch on eBay for practice both stropping and shaving. my jawline, nose and ears are in no danger but even with the greatest care I need to learn control and technique around my lips! I always switch to a DE around my lips to keep from slicing off bits I’d rather keep.

PACougTrust me, although I have 80 straight razors (I actually inventoried them a week ago, I counted 77), not every one is shave ready, and the only reason I amassed so many in the first place was so I could learn how to hone, principally using a variety of Coticles, yet I branched off with the sharpening media to include J-Nats and other media. I’m a bit of a pack rat admittedly. I really should divest some of these razors yet they don’t take up much in the time way of space, and I’m not hurting for funds. Many of the razors I acquired were won on eBay. I was collecting in 2011 through 2014. The last 3-4 years I lost interest, but I still have a need to shave every few days=:-)
If I could offer you some advice on learning how to shave using a straight razor...take your time with this endeavor. Do not rush things. Looking back, I would have to say I didn’t really feel comfortable with straight razors until after a good year or so using them, and shaving with them every shave. In the beginning, looking at my face, you would have thought I got into a cat fight, I had so many tiny cuts. Every one of those cuts healed and I learned a thing or two along the way=:-)
All that said, I still enjoy shaving with DE & SE safety razors. Sworn to fun, loyal to none=:-)
