Product Description
Made by Feather, a Japanese company that’s been in the business for more than 80 years, the Artist Club shaving razor offers a return to shaving as it used to be—a ritual rather than a chore. Similar in look and feel to a traditional straight razor, this “shavette” has one key difference: It uses replaceable blades, while a straight razor must be honed and stropped to maintain its shaving edge Read More

Anyone know where to find replacement parts for Feather products in Australia?
I was just thinking my fricking boar bristle facial hair might be better handled by a straight razor. As it is now I have to shave 3 times in a row with a multi-blade cartridge to get to anything approaching dating smooth. Hilariously expensive though. The rough neighborhood I grew up in, people would buy straight razors as uh, self defense items. As they were dirt cheap, and at least in theory you had a plausible reason to be carrying the item. As opposed to a switchblade or other knife with only one real purpose.

CalaverasgrandeI would try a double-edged safety razor before going all in on a straight razor. Coincidentally, I use blades from Feather in my DE and they're dirt cheap (as of this writing, Amazon has a 100 count box for $22.49). I still do multiple passes with that blade to get the desired smoothness, but I get multiple days' worth out of it. YMMV.
ben.thulI'm pretty sure my mileage would be worse. My facial hair is closer to something you'd find on a bear or a buffalo.

Just get a proper Dovo, they're better quality and you can use the full length blades in them. Even better, learn how to use a proper straight razor and a leather strop, no need to buy blades just learn to shave

Really wish that Massdrop would find a Schick Proline or Kai model instead of the Feather; Feathers are great, but the other brands are hard to find in the US and would present a unique drop. (Plus, the Schick is a bargain, where these shavettes are, let's be honest, really overpriced.) At least bringing one of the polished-steel models would set the drop apart from the Amazon listings. C'mon, Massdrop, let's see something exclusive!

Check out this one from Schick that's back up on Rakuten: https://global.rakuten.com/en/store/salonjapan/item/sj20183/
Wouldn't you rather Massdrop pursue importing something like that, instead of getting the same model everyone else is already getting for the same price with *maybe* a different handle color?

DanielRJacksonMaybe..... I mean, I already own one of the feather versions and know i'm happy with the quality. I'm only looking to pick up a second for teaching my son if the price was good.
That said, sure, that schick version looks like it could be a decent one as well. I'd give that a try too for the right price. Based on the price in the link, it'd make a nice backup for traveling that wouldn't hurt if it got lost or stolen

Which still seems to be a deal with the free blades, I see it averaging $150-$169 everywhere else.

Didn't notice last time that this drop includes a box of blades. That does improve the value a bit 👍
Would still like to see a drop on the less expensive plastic handled version! Get more people on board before they decide if they wanna go all in on the fancy wood model

thank you again MD! Loved my Christmas present to myself this year even though I didn't shave my beard til February lol. Mine arrived fast with my 20 pro blades, no problems, perfect. The razor is stunning in person, wonderful first shave!

I have the kamisori version of this and it’s so damn scary to shave with. Blade is the Pro blade. Imo the blade is way too sharp. I’d need to squeeze in a couple of shaves before I can shave confidently. I might try taming new blades on cork. But the razor is scaring the hell out of me.

Yeah Dorco is good. Now they are made in Vietnam. Also, Derby are great starter blades.

BuckbrickI have two of the kamisori style ones—the SS and DX models. Buy a pack of the ProGuard blades. They are a little easier to start off with. I still like them, but almost exclusively use the Pro blades now.
