Having never owned one of these before, is it meant to come with a little screwdriver or something to open it up?

varilightNo screwdriver necessary for ordinary operation. The front tip unscrews to replace the refill. The only reason to unscrew the back would be to replace the rear cap with a stylus nib. The stylus nib kits that Brian sells come with a torx driver to make the change.
