Would this drop anytime soon ...maybe the X1 mark 2 version?
Had it for a day and it keeps getting an "Output Error: Please reinsert earphones" message. All I found was this: http://www.fiio.me/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=41436&highlight=output%2Berror
Contacted Fiio support, we'll see where it goes...

still first gen? wondering if they ever put the 2nd ...
i was really interested but from what i read its version 1? maybe if i shell out this much money, ill prefer to wait. :)
Of course right after a major purchase and bills coming up is when the Interesting drops start popping up.

MassDrop should really look into resurrecting the Sansa Clip+ with Rockbox firmware. 14-15 hours of playtime, handles FLAC and high-bitrate MP3 beautifully, microSD slot can take a 128GB card, great sound. Sadly discontinued years ago and now go used for way over their original list price of $50 or so.
looking at the specifications with the chip it says in the description, this is the x1 fisrt gen.
I have same question as WillieMcTell - Is this the 1st generation model or the newest 2nd generation....?
Is this the first generation model? Looks like it from the description. I've had one for a couple of years and like it. The second generation model seems like an improvement though.

Add me to the list of people wanting to know if this is a gen1 or gen2. I know the gen2 has been out for a year now, but we need some clarification.
I personally am a bit more interested in the X3 model for the dedicated line-out, but I'm ready to jump in on an acceptable substitute.
I own one. If I had it to do over again I would get something better. It is slow to boot. Slow to browse. The wheel is messed right up.
Total buyers remorse.
So much waiting and my order was canceled by some error,Not cool Massdrop I'm very disappointed. Now i have to wait another ten months to next drop:(,i dont think so :).Better buy on Amazon
Shipping to Singapore is a bit steep. It's $20 for me. Meanwhile the shilping for the shanling m1 an amazing $5.
So I use one of these little guys pretty much daily (now with HD6XX's, <3). It has its pros and cons but I honestly love it.
Pros: Affordable, plays pretty much every file type you'll need. Memory is SD card based, not internal. Easy navigation. Battery life is surprisingly good. (Just drove from NC to UT and it lasted an entire 16hr day driving only running out of battery in the last 30 mins).
Cons: With a larger card (100g+) the GUI gets really slow. 2-3 second delay when pressing a button slow. It is also quite hard to find songs/artists from their respective lists as there is no "fast scroll" option so it can take a long time to find an artist in the middle of the alphabet. To compensate for this I simply have a few 32 and 64 gig cards that I swap here and there, as both still contain plenty of music for any given time.

yeah i need to change my photo! I use both and didn't pay attention. The A3 is my wifes (also, suffers from the same slow GUI fyi)

I have an X1 also -- great piece of gear. RE: Slow UI -- have you upgraded the firmware to the latest (and last one) FiiO has put out for it? It fixes the laggy/out of sync scroll wheel issue.
With shipping and state tax this is $84. You can get this cheaper and faster on ebay if the tax is too much.
I have had an X1 1st Gen for well over a year now, and it is in constant daily use. Never had any problems with the scroll wheel, buttons, menu, or any other problems. It has worked flawlessly. I paid just over £100 for mine, and it was the best £100 I have spent this decade. I adore it. Used with my SE-315's and K7XX's the sound from the FLAC files used is incredible for the price.
This is an absolute bargain at $70 USD. If you are after a cheap DAC, then look no further. Massdrop have pulled off an amazing price, for a top quality product.

Anyone have the specs on headphone jack power output into different loads?
Finally Massdrop you did it , i am so proud of you:). Please send me silver colour, very please:).
oh wow no bluetooth ..smart :/

It's the old (original) model. 2nd gen has bluetooth.

Bluetooth is a thing now for audiophiles? I didn't know. Usually I would frown on bluetooth as its pointless to get a audiophile player if you want to go Bluetooth. Going bluetooth means that you are having the DAC/amp in the bluetooth headset decode the audio signals instead and effectively negate the point of getting a audiophile player, for the high quality amp/DAC inside the player.
Only thing that so called "audiophile bluetooth" does is have the ability to send a slightly less compressed version of the music, and I think it also depends on the headset ability to support it?
If you're getting a audiophile player for bluetooth, you're better off using your phone instead. It would literally sound the same( I think)
Do yourself a favor and shell out a little more for a 2nd Gen. The scrollwheel on 1st Gen has made sane people go mental. This thing becomes erratic after a bit and you end up having to use the Previous/Next buttons to go thru folders. Also note that development for this unit (Firmware-wise) is dead. This is a end of life product and is treated as such.
If you're still on this bandwagon, this unit does deliver great sound, covers a wide range of lossless audio codecs and comes with support out of the box for the most popular formats (mp3, FLAC, wav, to name a few). Sweet little DAP at a decent price. Housing is made of aluminum on the front side and plastic on the back.
Remember you gotta provide your own SD card as this unit does not come with one !
This player is so good I love it. I've abused mine fora couple of years and shows no signs of giving up. I was considering an upgrade at some point because I want dedicated line-out but I'm attached to it now.
So are they gonna f it up and send out Golds again...?
Highly recommend this. I've had it for a while.
Literally just bought one for a trip overseas, otherwise I would be in for this lol. It's an awesome little player though. Paris great with my Noble X IEMs.
Plz drop the Fiio X5 3rd generation !!!
johnzxj
Good luck, the X1 1st Gen is end of life, they're literally selling remaining stocks. I wish they'd drop the X5 3rd Gen too but considering the exchange rate (CAD->USD), I'm not even sure that it'd still be a good buy...
