Word from Fiio is that the X3 3rd Gen is due out in late June or early July.
Got mine a few days ago. Went out and bought a micro sd card, loaded it with all of my music. Plugged in my RHA X10's and only get sound out of the left iem. Figured I didn't have them plugged in all the way. Pushed in a little firmer and was getting sound from both iem's. But, as soon as I let go of the plug I lose sound from the right again. I'm very disappointed. I was really looking forward to this player.

I recant my post. The jack port is very firm. I pushed a little harder and all is well. It sounds fantastic!
Are there any similar audio players like these that can function as a DAC as well here on Massdrop?
Massdrop, please how this is being shipped. Are you printing the labels and sending them to Fiio for them to ship like you are doing for the Massdrop X Noble X drop? Is this your new way of shipping where the vendor ships instead of you? If so, your notification  email needs to state this instead of saying Massdrop is sending you a package that makes it appear the package should be on the way to the customer the next day. It's been 8 days since the X Noble X shipping notification and 2 days since the Fiio shipping notification and neither item has shipped. We customers need to know how the shipping is being handled so we aren't expecting to receive a package when it hasn't even shipped yet.  We can deal with the shipping, we just need correct information, not information that's incorrect and misleading.
I wonder, what was the price on previous drops? Is it worth it to wait?
So @Massdrop apparently there is some demand for this item since it didn't even take a whole day to sell out. Perhaps it should come back soon, wink wink.

Already voted, thanks though. The problem is that by the time most of us got the email that this drop was live and logged into the site to grab one, they were already sold out and we couldn't get in on it.
I got an email for this drop but it is still inactive, any thoughts?

How long was this drop up for? It was about to buy it today...

It looks like it was limited to 50 units, so it was probably sold out in a few minutes. I experienced the same thing. Dissapointing.
Are we just gonna gloss right over this gem?
"Comes with six User Interface themes"
*Opens box, sees pile of stickers*
When I sell my fridge on Craigslist, I'm going to market it as coming with a User Interface Theme hahahahahaha
I too would like to know how the authentication problems have been resolved. If these are not recognized as authentic by Fiio, what, if any recourse do we have?

What else would lead Fiio to offer remote digital authentication? (and the potential of failing to authenticate) Fake x3? Maybe, I'm not sure. But fake Fiio products? - Evidently, yes. Google "fake fiio", there seem to be companies selling Fiio clones.

Makes sense. The situation is worse than I thought lol I hope the mess is corrected for you fellas
How does the touch wheel compare to the X1? On he X1 it was so dodgy/sensitive that it was unusable unless you were motionless and very precise.
Curious if anyone has any experience using these in a car system. Do you need to use AUX out or would it be possible to connect via USB and in turn control from the car? Looking for something to replace my dying Ipod video classic but I want something that will be controllable from the radio itself.

In those situations it is no different that placing your music on a plain ol' USB drive. Nothing else is taking place except the DAP serving as a storage drive.
lunatics
My experience has been similar to chicken_pollo's. It really depends on the car and the head unit for its audio system. In theory, it should just see it as a USB drive, but not all cars will recognize it. And if the car does recognize it, what type of files you have on the X3 will also determine whether or not they will play; some head units can only play back MP3 and not FLAC, OGG, etc. It's nice to have the ability to control the X3 via your car's stereo but, again like p_o, I pretty much always just plug the DAP line-out into the vehicle's AUX. Sounds great and no hassles. Cheers!
what was the price on that one?
Same problem as pingerau. Authenticity code is not good. Did we get cheated here?

I contacted massdrop. They worked with Fiio and got this resolved in a few days. Ultimately my unit passed authentication on Fiio site. Kudos to massdrop for good customer service
I have received my x3ii and when i went to authenticate the player with the scratch coated code it has come back as "The product is not manufactured by Fiio Company."
Has anyone else came across this issue?

more info from this post, seems was resolved by Fiio/MD !
but now the drop is inactive hahahaha!
have the x3 v2 in front of me right now, been using it with my campfire audio nova's for the last half year, been pretty happy with it.
I'm still using the X3 version 1 and enjoy it using coax out to a Parasound Zdac headphone amp and Sennheiser 650s. To my senior ears I love it. No doubt the version 2 is an improvement. In any case, thumbs up for FiiO!
Would these be overkill for Shure SE215 and Brainwavz HM5? Hard to decide between these and the X1 2nd gen.
cgouy
sound quality would be probably be bit better..however you purchase should be based on the X2 features like dedicated line out and DAC for PC..if your not interested with these features then X1 2nd gen most likely better choice.

Appreciate your comment. You have reinforced my decision to go for the X1. Thanks.
Does this work with Tidal?
nantipaneith
If you use it as a USB DAC from a tablet or laptop/PC it works with Tidal.
Hi guys, i got 2 questions (newbie here)
1) Will this Fiio make a better sound on my FLAC files even if i'm using a low impedance headphone (18 ohm) ? (I usually listen music on my phone, an iPhone 6)
2) How do i know the shiping price ? (I live in France)
Thanks guys

The Fiio DAC is a slightly warm sound, nothing too much but very pleasant, reasonably powerful amp for a mobile solution at this price point, will drive just about any IEM you throw at it well and most headphones aside from the super high Ohm and super inefficient. (slots nicely into the K5 dock should you in the future need more power) Mine is 2 years old wiuth plenty of use and still looks and sounds like new. You can find the shipping price if it is hidden by pressing the join drop button, it will then show the full price and shipping to your country.
No, the iPhone 6 sounds very nice. It has very good audio specs.
This drop got me interested in the player but for this one I think I'll head down to the Headphone Bar (Vancouver, BC) and pick it up for CAD 215 (the Massdrop price after conversion and customs comes to about CAD 225).
Good Evening Gents & Ladies.
If I were to have around $300 to spend on a portable player with best bang for buck so to speak, would anyone have some recommendations for me? I have an iPod Classic 120Gb in perfect condition, just times have moved on...big time lol!
Thank you :)

I wish you'll have lots of fun in this hobby and find the best DAP for you!^^
MusicFuelsYourSoul
I'm having the same issue. 6th Generation iPod Classic loaded with ALAC music. It's paired to to a Fiio E12. I'd like a new DAP also but a battery replacement is cheap for the Classic. Can't find a DAP with enough power to be able to ditch the Fiio.
I stopped using my X3ii after I got my Shanling M5 here on MD.
After seeing this come up, however, I pulled it out again to give it another listen.
Yes, overall, the M5 sounds better to my ear. I think it's the MUSES op amp in the M5 amp section that makes it more musical.
But the X3ii was very enjoyable. More enjoyable than I remember it being.
The Shanling M5 is around twice the price if I remember correctly, so the X3ii is a great value, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good sounding DAP for a good price.
Plus you can output the DAC to an outboard amp if you want another sound signature.
I'd be getting one of these if I didn't already have one!
I just got mine last Thursday for around the same price with next day shipping from Amazon. It seems massdrop is unable to make a better deal on the fiio products than I would have liked.
Still if you're in the market for a dap, this is a rock solid choice. Solid metal construction, nice clicky wheel similar to the ipods old touch interface, and it only does one thing: play music. It typically gets louder than my phone and has a high low gain switch. It's unfortunate to see that massdrop cannot secure this at 100ish dollars.
I'm still waiting for this drop https://www.massdrop.com/buy/fiio-x1-music-player , I believe in you Massdrop :)
My local Frys store has this for $148, same price with Massdrop if you add the shipping but I don't need to wait and I have a choice of color
If i order this for a European country should i pay custom fees for it?DHL shipping or USPS ?
Madmax80
If stopped at customs, Yes. Importing outside of the European zone is always a 50/50, some you win, some you loose. MassDrop does not include custom and vat duties in their prices.
Amazon has it at $170 and theirs comes with a 64GB SD Card.
I own this. Firstly, it supports the 200gb SanDisk Card. So it supports more than 128gb. I like mine. I wish it had Rockbox, but the firmware works, even if it could be designed better. The DAC is good for the price, better than an unmodded iPod at any rate. It is worth it, although the Massdrop price isn't fantastic.
Have LG V10 which produces pretty good sound, do I really need this?

i once owned both V10 and X3ii, sound quality is almost same for both, but the sound signature/characteristic is different between the two, fiio x3ii sounds bit warmer and fuller, hence bit more engaging. i recommend X3ii over V10, however that's my opinion and its not really popular opinion as lots of people prefer V10 . Anyway..Fiio X3ii also can be used as DAC for your PC and line-out too(for external amp or car stereo).
It's definitely going to have better sound quality (not power) and it can be used on a desk PC or laptop but I think a portable amp like the fiio E12 will serve you much better....It's my bff.
I've been very happy with my X3ii. I use it for for 6+ hours every day and appreciate that it doesn't require daily charging. I can't comment on its high resolution music performance as my music is only lossless ripped CDs. A second slot, or support above 128 GB, would be good as even without hi res music I can only have a few thousand tracks available.
