Does anyone know how these compare to the pair from Etymotic Research? I'm looking into grabbing a pair of these-shaped earbuds and mainly listen to classical, jazz and videogame scores

VibrumThey are a touch more bassy than than etymotic hf5. I like the them better overall they are awesome for classical listening. They may be the most sensitive headphone I own though, so you can get hissing from bad sources. An attenuator like iematch should help but I haven't gotten mine yet

VibrumAlso, these don't have the insane sound isolation of the hf5's. Not that the heavens don't have good isolation, just that hf5's are pretty renowned for it.

VibrumAnything ETY is blah. They are super extreme flat and boring with 0% energy and painful when you have to cram them deep in your ear to make work right, bad design. I tried the new SR and in minutes knew I hated them. Painful to use and so deep it must be it was always a task to get a perfect seal. Once did get them in the perfect position, they lacked midrange and bass. Treble was WAY to flat and boring with no energy. There is a reason why not everyone has them if they are SO good and legendary. The Heaven III is what ETY could of made but didn't and never will. I really hated the ETY with a pasion and listened to the hype train how they are legendary. Blah, lost $30.00 in return stocking fee. If you like a musical IEM that does not have to go completely in your ear canal to sound good and has an amazing mid, decent accurate bass, and never sibilant treble the III's are it. I call the III's the RE-600 from HIFIMAN just on steroids.

Hi-FierOne cannot compare anything colored to the Etys . Finals are colored, RE-600 colored, the RE-400 less colored than the RE-600. Neither one will ever get the treble extension of the Etys - just a fact. To compare a reference level tool to that of colored iems tailored for the masses is like comparing tinkerbell to the boogeyman. Etys are not hype for what they are designed and made for. Fit is a preference thing as as well as bias towards heavy and colored tonality.
Going back to the Heaven III, my just arrived today. I've owned all of the Heaven models and III performs between the IV and V, so they are of good value despite the flamboyant presentation and accessories of the upper Heaven models, but like the V and below, it does not react well to high volumes. And like all Heavens VI and below, the sound stage greatly benefits with wider bore tips. Those that have retail Heaven II and up model needs to try the stock type B tips.
MD should provide a retail version (box, case, type B tips) for the $100 msrp.

Hi-FierI don't need more headphones, but am still intrigued by the XR version of of the ER4. seems to extend into sub bass while retaining the other qualities. They only ever have the lower models on massdrop though

dominicaIf you enjoy something crammed deep in your ear that makes it a painful uncomfortable listening experience, you will love the ETY line. If you don't like a warm forward sound, with no bass with a flat boring no weight sound they are for you.
