I just got mine today, and an initial comparison to the Hifiman RE-400s (my current go-to) is NOT favourable. Build quality of The Final Heaven IIIs is fine, they're a good weight, but they stick out of the ear a bit far. The cable is of decent quality, but I'm not a fan of the flat design.
The Finals have a significantly smaller soundstage than the Hifimans, a lot more bass (it seems reasonably well-controlled, but I wouldn't call it tight) to the point that it overwhelms the midrange, and much less treble extension. Switching between the two is like the difference between closed-back and oven-baked headphones; a staggering difference, and most people have a definite preference for one over the other. I personally love open cans, and I can't stand what I perceive as a muffled and blurry presentation that I get from the Final Heaven IIIs. So much good separation is lost.
The most apt comparison I can think of is the Sony MDR-V6/MDR-7506 (Final) vs Sennheiser HD650s (Hifiman) with a good amplifier, except in this case the Sonys sound a lot more accurate than the Finals. Very disappointed so far but will give them another try later.

ahanubanI wonder if the Final is one of those IEMs that needs to fit just right in your ears in order to sound good. That may be the case.
I find that true for the RE-400. They are very polarized in terms of people's opinions, and it may also be the case where fit plays a key role.
For me, the RE-400 just don't work. I always found them hard sounding, ie, I feel they didn't breathe, and they never sounded supple and relaxed. In fact, they always sounded stiff to me. Plus the treble was grating and tinny to my ears.
But when I really pushed them deep into my ear canals, yes, I could see what people were talking about. They sounded good. But I could never get them to seat like that with any of the tips I tried, Spinfits, Spriral Dots, Comply, etc. So I gave up after trying for while.
Interestingly, I find the RE-600 to work just fine for me. But they do have a different kind of silicone tip than the RE-400.
So maybe this is a case where the Finals work fine for some folks, but not for others, because of they way they fit in the ear canals.
Just a thought.

K.T.NAn interesting thought. It occurred to me that it wouldn't be a fair comparison without a good fit, so the first thing I did was installing Sony silicone ear tips, which are the most comfortable for me with the best seal. The RE-400s had the same ear tips on them, and it seemed like the Finals made a good seal.
I tested them with both my Google Pixel phone and an odac with o2 amplifier.

ahanubanHere's something interesting.
Just to illustrate all the variables that go into perceived headphone/earphone sound, I also own the Sony MDR-V6, and the Sony MDR-7506, as well as the Sennheiser HD650, and if I were make the analogy to between the Final and the HiFi Man RE-400, my conclusion would be exactly the opposite of yours.
It shows how many variables there are in perceived sound, and how something that may work for one person may not for another.
And that both opinions are totally valid because both people are hearing different things, and preferring different products accordingly.

K.T.NTrue.. I have never experienced my sennheiser headphones as "veiled" or "muffled". They've always been very clean, with a wide soundstage, realistic perceived frequency response, and excellent instrument separation. It's strange how sound perception varies so much between different people

ahanubanDid you use smaller tips so you have deep insertion? I know for me, I had to go smaller then usual to get the best sound possible. The midrange to me is solid and the bass doesn't overwhelm it. But the treble is definitely laid back. The resolution is really good as well.
I like open as well due to the clarity and detail retrieval, but I'm also digging these. Even though the finals don't have as much detail and clarity as I would like. The unique sound signature just makes me coming back to them more often then not.
Didnt know there was many posts above the one I just sent lmfao.
