I'd really like to know how these stack up against HD 650s, but I cannot find any good reviews.
Anyone have experience with both?

Jas260"Way better"? Have you compared these with the 650s or are you just saying that?
I am not talking about low end equipment, obviously I will be investing in a proper amp to drive whichever cans I get, I just wanted to hear from someone who has actually done some A/B with these two.

otstyleI've done the A/B.
It's not even a contest. Unless you listen to flatulence-core, the Sonorous VI (or Pandora Hope... whatever) will win hands down.
The balanced armature does a phenomenal job with the highs... very much like the HD800s.
Just got off the phone with the USA branch of FAD; there will be more to come here in the USA. No worries.
If you want the Sonorous X, they are available for pre order at the moment for 4k... 20% off. There is also a pair of their flagship IEM 50% off as a demo.

otstyleGet some balanced cables for the HD650 and you won't believe the difference. The HD650 are better and cheaper if you look around. I think that the price on these FAD VI is still a bit too high. The upper end is too bright. The Senns and the AKG Kxx or K712 are superior. The LCD-2, no contest. I have heard these and I was originally in this drop and opted out. If the price was $50-$100 less at say $399, I would go for them. They would sell the complete allotment at that price. But, you can find the headphones I mentioned already in the $399 range. I bought the HD700 new for $490 and bought 6" extensions for them to get balanced output. Now, that is one heck of a headphone especially in balanced mode. The HD700 is great to begin with but balanced, oh my god! It is a completely different hp. They become reference level and blow the FAD VI completely out of the water. The high treble balances out and you get a very accurate and great sound hp for pretty much any genre. So, at $399, they would be worth it. At $499 or more, there are at least 8-10 phones that beat it comfortably. Heck, on Amazon you can get the Beyerdynamic T5P ($1299 MSRP) for $699 right now! Now, that is a good deal for an Audiophile headphone that is in a different league. I ordered those when I dropped out of this offer. If they came back at $399, I would buy them but not a cent more. Trust me, look around. There is better for the same money or less if you do your homework.

zeemanConsider this one more like a go to street headphone. I have a HD 650, but I barely use it without an amplifier.

rnrneverdieTry the Beyerdynamic T5P as a street headphone. I can bee driven by most audio players including Fiio X5 and X3, IBasso, any of the Astel and Kearn, HifiMan, Cowon, etc. I have all of those and they drive the T5P with no issue and little to no loss in resolution. If you want the FAD to sound at all half descent, you can't use an IPhone. If you just want sound, fine but if you want true audio performance then a player is needed and some of the lighter ones may require a portable headphone amp. Depends what you want. My HifiMAN HM901s drives my Beyer T1 to plenty of volume as well as LCD-3, LCD-XC, Senn HD800, HiFiman HE500, AKG K812. I have all of those and can confirm that the Cowon P1 and other players can pretty much do a good job on all those phones. If you use a cell phone be it an IPhone, or any high end Android, you are not really doing any of those headphones any justice. IEM's, fine but on-ear and over-ear, not really! It is really what you are looking for. But if you spend $500 on a set of cans that are over ear, then Iphones are not the proper source to get the most out of those cans. It defeats the purpose of what you are trying to achieve..............great sound would be my guess or go but a pair of $25 on ear at Best Buy and call it a day!

zeemanBalance requires full system, and I'm pretty sure It doesn't go cheap. And I find the Sonorous sounds pretty fine plugging straight into a phone, and frankly all of the fullsize you mention don't actually do that. Then again the Sonorous isn't that great using the A pad and surely I wouldn't wear this on the street. But with the B pad coupled in and not having to fiddle with a lot of Dac/Amp and cable crap, I think it's a great deal for those wanting mid-fi sound. At least it sounds better than the El8 to my ears, haven't try the T5p though.
zeemanLet's not forget "better" is entirely subjective here! Yours is definitely a worthwhile take on it, but *personally* I have never been a huge fan of the Sennheisers I have tried and I am hoping these FADs have a sound signature I am going to dig. Curious to know what you mean when you refer to "become reference level" in this instance as well. Unless you mean "suddenly develops a near totally flat frequency response" (which whilst desirable at a studio mixing desk, isn't usually the case for HiFi listening) "Reference" is surely just marketing bilge used by manufacturers to denote the top end of their range and is meaningless in this case?

PoisonPoisonTastyfishHere's my personal take on this hp as an owner: The A pads sucks, exaggerated treble and pretty harsh sounds, and pretty terrible comfort with both pads as your ear touch the grill. Once you get past that though with a 2$ fix, this is a great buy. It doesn't need an amplifier to sounds great, even a phone works just fine, but they do sound a little more refined if you do. Bass is deep without bloating (just don't use it for rock, grab a grado if you're a rock fan), mid is clear with fluidity and great body, treble is extended and crisp. Soundstage is just average though, but instrument are well defined in their own space. Its not the neutral kind of things, it is simply a great headphones with little flaws. Do note that they require some burnin, at least mine do as they sounds utterly terrible out of box, but about 50 hours later things get better, to the point that I didn't think it was the same hp. There are better fullsize out there, but simply put they will cost you triple or quadruple the price of this for the whole set. Just my 2cent of your average everyday user.

zeemanHah. You claim you know a lot about headphones, but from your preference it's certainly a false claim. These sonorous cans are the best closed cans in 500 range. Hd700 is nothing but a senn made shit which only works with classical and instruments. Blow the sonorous out of the water? What are you deaf? Even dead man can conclude that sonorous vi has better vocal, which owners of hd650 and 700 can only dream about. K7xx and k712? Those are simply jokes. Just admit that you are writing comments with your imagination. There's no mean you think sonorous are too bright while liking the 712. K712 is known for its unacceptable treble. I guess you just never try them both before write the comment. Plus if these cans are going on sale for 399, it will kills every single closed can in the market for that range. All of them.
