"Ya knows at a certain point you pays your moneys and takes your chances."
If you were to make a continuum of headphones from alive to dead it would be Grado (alive) on one end and Senn (dead) on the other. It has something to do with how bright the headphone is, but there is much more to it (that's how the HD800 can be bright yet still sound like a Senn). If anybody really wants to know just buy any Grado SR80 and a Senn HD650 listen for a few months and see what you are listening to more. And oh, before and during the experiment don't read reviews/opinions on the headphones especially if you are vulnerable to suggestion. If you do read stuff, immediately stop when somebody writes that "X blows away (fill in the hyperbole) Y": you know the comment/opinion is objectively valueless.
Now what the hell is going on? Only two days left and this drop has not reached the lowest price?

CompassionatorIt reached once and two of them are out. Personally I think grado is a nice headphone, but there are more choices worth to try. Especially some Japanese company. They may in most western favor, but they are pretty interesting headphone company.

CompassionatorAll I am trying to say is be careful with your $500. Unless you have tried these, (I have) then that is a bit too much to risk. I have 23 pairs of headphones ranging from $300 all the way up to $2K +. I have phones from every major brand and the front end both portable and full blown. So, I think I do know what I am saying when I say X blows away Y. Maybe my comment was a bit too strong.....my apologies. Yes headphones are objective based on the listener and musical preferences. I am just simply stating that in this price range, you can get better overall performance and sound quality. Take my opinion or don't, I am not telling anyone not to buy them. I really couldn't care less. This is a discussion thread and if you are eager to buy these and my comment makes you think others will shy away, well that is their choice not yours or mine. I think I have bought enough of this stuff and spent a heck of a lot of money to find out the hard way. Now I am just a bit wiser when buying and thinking that I am getting a $700 pair of headphones for $500. Let's be real, that $499 makes it look attractive but that is how all marketing is done. It is only $1 less but let's face it, this is not a $400 hp but a $500 headphone. I am just giving my opinion that there is better for the money as a lot of people are throwing down $500 for possibly the only relatively speaking high end headphone. I have been fortunate and at times reckless in my purchases and have ended up selling many phones at a substantial loss thinking I was getting a great deal. From your comment as to what the hell is going on, and why it has not reached the lowest price may be telling you something. Just because you want it, does not mean other are willing to throw their money away. Smart thinking. If you want them so bad, then the extra $50 they are at right now should not sway your decision.....should it?

zeemanHere's a fix I did to the Pandora VI - the real problem was treble coloration - not so much treble quantity.

zeemanX blows away Y, in your opinion... Superiority in Audio is completely subjective. Some people will prefer a Bose to these. Others will prefer Beats or Sony to these. They are not wrong. They are merely their opinion. I have owned several headphones in my life, and my opinion is not always the same as others, but I like these headphones from a few hours listen in Bic Camera in Ikebukuro I had last week. I couldn't quite throw down AU$800+ at the time, as I was in the middle of traveling. For around AU$740, I am more than happy to buy off Massdrop for the next drop, when it happens.

KamikazeWhen you're considering audio superiority there is a recognized quality that is considered superior.
Maybe to someone's preference a loose bass is considered "better" but overall a tight and refined bass response is considered "superior"
