YuHongZhouActually, both the Americans and Russians started off using pencils, but pencils in space suck. The graphite tips break off or powder gets loose, and then it floats around getting into places you don't want it. Plus it's flammable; ask the astronauts of Apollo I what they think of flammable things in a high-oxygen environment. Both the Russians and the Americans now use Fisher Space Pens.
