I pre-ordered the Flex directly from Fitbit before it originally released a few years back and have been wearing it more-or-less continuously since. It's a nice little piece of tech, but there are some serious drawbacks.
1. The app is garbage. It's really slow to sync with your Flex when you open it. It also doesn't talk to Apple's HealthKit for those of you that live in the iOS universe. (I originally used Flex with an Android device, and that app was worse, but I'm sure it's improved.) 2. The thing goes into sleep mode really easily. Clap your hands? You're sleeping. 3. This is the worst part: the contacts on the Flex pick up crud and require pretty regular cleaning or the thing won't charge. I have to get out the alcohol swabs about once a month, and just last night spent about 15-20 minutes scraping gunk off the contacts with toothpicks just to keep the thing alive.
Having said all that, it's really nice and light. It's unobtrusive (which I want) and simple. It's also got battery life for me of just under a week or so. The step tracking is very smart. It is rarely fooled by extraneous hand gestures (even when worn on my dominant hand), and it even does a pretty good job of tracking my steps when I'm not swinging my arm much, like when carrying things or pushing a shopping cart. Lastly, even though it doesn't connect to HealthKit, it does connect to nearly every other product or service. I use MyFitnessPal extensively, and the two play very nicely with one another these days.
I'd say if you're thinking "maybe," go for it. Just know what you're getting. And try not to be depressed when you're reminded that you've spent all morning sitting on your butt.

davemacdoI have Fitbit One, which doesn't have issues with clapping @davemacdo is referring to, but I pretty much concur with him on application being a garbage. It does look nice, but that's as far as it goes. It takes ages to sync anything. Event if you are not syncing it takes ages for application to load data. That said, these devices are neat and a great push to get you moving, if you indeed need that little push.
Am just a geek and I like knowing more information about myself. :)
