I simply cannot knowingly buy a Chinese made watch. Ever. Next.

kingpingYou're an idiot then. Not all products made in China are bad quality.
Good luck!

kingpingGadyiet I appreciate your reply and the upvotes your comments received, however I must respond to your assumption that 1) I'm an idiot, which I am not, and 2) that my comment was solely based on a perception of bad quality, which was your assumption and not my comment. I will try to be brief in my explanation. Every dollar you and I spend is a vote; a financial statement based on choice and need, or desire in the case of a watch. I want to know where the items I buy come from, and I make choices often based on such. First and foremost I loathe the Chinese government and it's policies (in general) and I choose to consume as few Chinese made goods as possible--not as an absolute, but as an informed and thoughtful decision. Additionally, while you are correct that not all products made in China are bad quality, you'd be hard pressed to find any informed business person who would claim that Chinese QC is anything close to what we see in Japan, Europe(generally) or in the US. There's also the issue of US jobs. There are some items which for me are non-negotiable in this matter: shoes, clothing, books, and watches--all industries which used to thrive in the US and now don't. My comment was not a troll so much as an expression of my disappointment in finding a $600 Chinese made watch presented to a community which is seeing an absolute flood of Chinese watches in all price points--often with COO (Country of Origin) obscured or obfuscated. I could go on, but I don't want to be an idiot...

kingpingwhatever laptop/tablet/phone you used to type what you just said was made in china as well. And your device came with much more complicated parts and probably cost you more than this watch.

kingpingHello cincin, and thanks for the reply. Actually my Gigabyte laptop was designed and assembled in Taiwan--chock full of Chinese made components I'm sure--supporting my statement above that I at least consider country of origin when making purchases. I'm not a wealthy man, but if I had $600 to spend on a watch I could think of numerous other options to any Fiyta--like the Steinhart Ocean One I'm wearing now for example. My response to Gadyiet in this thread further explains my thinking.

kingpingCan't say I disagree with you. If there's a not made in china option for similar amount of money it would be hard for me to not consider that as well. But for people (not necessarily you) to generalize that ALL china made items have QC issues, that's simply inaccurate. Case in point My made in china $200 coach wallet lasted far longer and is of noticeably sturdier quality than my $330 made in italy burberry. As for watches, if I'm buying a seiko I'd most definitely prefer one made in japan vs made else where. However chinese watch brand like seagull are definitely worth their money and is at or better than swiss/japanese watches at similar price point, and I would not want a seagull with swiss/jpn movement in it, it will have to be chinese.

kingpingYou must be joking :) Steinhart are blatant copy-cats who order as much details from China as possible. This Fiyta is miles more original and soul-full product.

kingpingFiyta is not your regular Chinese watch company. They have kinda Western approach to do things, offer original products with excellent QC. Design-wise, this watch can stand vs any Japanese or Swiss watch below 1k and not be ashamed.

kingpingYou are already being an idiot... like the US government and it policies are beyond reproche...
There are a lot of US products that are just crap and others that are exceptional... go buy a US brand watch like Timex. Oh wait it is made in China...

Grinnie_JaxFunny you mention this. I was considering this versus a Steinhart Ocean 1 Premium 500.

fishinglegendThanks also for the comment-- Personally I'd take "Swiss Made," German owned and an ETA movement over a Shenzhen watch any day... But I guess that was my initial comment. Surprised how wound up folks are about this post.

MMMMMMMMMM... Thanks for replying. Again, I am not an idiot, just expressing my opinions dude. I also never said or implied "the US government and its policies are beyond reproach...", but have tried to keep politics out of this Massdrop thread as much as possible. ;-) I completely agree with your closing comment. This Fiyta watch is a fine choice for many, just not me.

kingpingDue to new regulations forced by Swatch Group, it'll be very hard for companies like Steinhart to continue print "Swiss Made" on their watches while buying lots of stuff from China: cases, crystals, dials, etc. - actually everything except ETA ebauche which was also made from many Chinese parts, but only the most expensive details purchased in Switzerland from Nivarox (overcoil balance springs) for example - just to justify 50% of Swiss cost in it. Blatant.

kingpingFunny - You compare a high-quality watch with its own design and unique movement (Fiyta) with a Rolex Submariner replica with an all-round caliber (Steinhart). Apparently, you prefer to give your money copycats than serious manufactures. I own this watch in addition to some + 2,000 $ watches from Swiss manufacturers and can claim that this can easily take up the quality.

tjonesHello, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on my simple, apparently incendiary four-month-old comment about Fiyta. Yes, I'm comparing my derivative Steiny (under $400) to your unique Fiyta(over $600?), and do so with pleasure...
Firstly, does your watch make metallic scraping sounds like the one RetroInferno received? My Steiny purrs... Do you wish there were half-link band adjustments like Larryg was bumming about? Steinhart adjusts easily. Your commemorative Mars Mission Isolation Tank watch? Tag Huer is now the official partner and Fiyta is out for the coming real Chinese Mars Mission , something Sanzhar called "ironic."
Secondly, sounds like you agree maybe with one of my original points that $600 is a lot for a Chinese watch? "fishinglegend Any more information on the movement? Any watchmaker input? It's hard to dump on $600 on a watch with a movement from a company with little reputation in the states. Grinnie_Jax to fishinglegend : Second that"
Thirdly, I don't have a lot of money period, so yes, I choose to spend my money on my "copy" as you call it, and not the Shenzen watch. BTW, you DO know that the submariner is also a "copy," right?
Lastly, I'm happy for you that you can afford " some + 2,000 $ watches from Swiss manufacturers," something I cannot afford nor need to do, and that they can " take up the quality." I'll stick with the watches I like and can afford, my Miyota and ETA movements, my copies. Remember, I never said what I think people should do, I only explained why this watch wouldn't work for me. Appreciate and cherish your watch, seriously, and i'm glad you got one--it's definitely unique. Everybody has different likes and reasons when it comes to choosing what watch to buy. I honestly don't understand the amount of hostility around my initial comment and replies. Oh, wait. I forgot: Internet!
