Just got my carbon steel version. Beautiful knife. Haven't used it yet, but the in-hand feel is excellent. But I was wondering, does anyone have any thoughts on a blade protector? I don't have a good spot for a stand or magnetic hanger, so I've mostly used a plastic edge protector for my heavy western blades so they can hang out in a drawer. This Florentine is a little more Japanese in shape (kind if like a deep gyuto, which is what initially attracted me) and doesn't fit well. Maybe there's a properly shaped saya around? Any thoughts?
gjt77Hi, we are so happy you like it! thank you. As for your question, we will come out with new sheaths soon. You can join our mailing list and get notified, we only send emails when there is a new product coming out.
Where do these knives ship from? I'm in the Netherlands and was under the impression these knives are created in Barcelona, Spain so there would be no customs fees. Please let me know if this is correct.
FDDRI'm sorry to read that. I'm here to help but I don't run the sale or have influence or ability in these matters. You will need to contact Massdrop to sort it out. Just one thing, it will still probably be cheaper then if I sent it to you from Spain.
I don't get why all the knives are off the shipping list to Israel(even though they're on Massdrop's list of countries that you can ship to), I could've sworn the first time I looked into knives on this site they were available.
And it's doubly ridiculous that these Florentine Knives are not shipping to Israel.
These guys make excellent knives. Small batch, hand finished, great attention to the details. And Tomer, the guy behind FKK is a great dude. I've handled nearly every model he's designed. And that 52100 carbon steel is one of the most popular among virtually all of the top custom chef knife makers out there today. It takes an edge, holds an edge, tends to have a little 'tooth' to the edge which many chefs look for, and is slightly more corrosion resistant than its popular cousin 1095. And it performs well whether forged or ground. At this price these are quite the sweet deal.
