I have and others who own these tops and other brands ... ForeverSpin tops are possibly the worst performing tops you can purchase.

it-manReally? I'm just getting into the topic of tops and don't know much about them. What over tops do you have and how do they perform?

rea123Hi have Vorso and Janus Tops as well as a dozen of these ForeverSpin ones. The Vorso is the best, can get 5 minutes and my 4 year old can spin the Vorso. The ForeverSpin even I with lots of practice can only get around 20 seconds. Seriously don't waste your money on ForeverSpin. I'm keeping my ForeverSpin ones to teach my boy about different weights and colour of metals ... Functionality as a top is useless.

rea123A ForeverSpin top should be bought for 1 reason only...you like the style and appearance of it. I bought a Damascus steel ForeverSpin for $60 at Huckberry.com, $29 less than it sells for at Foreverspin.com, only for the reason that I really like Damascus steel and thought it looks great in the Foreverspin design. I knew I wasn't getting a performance top, so I'm OK with that. BUT, to anyone new to tops, I would say that for the money spent, the Foreverspin should be near the bottom of your "buy list". For the same price or nearly so, there are numerous top makers that put out tops that will trounce the performance of the Foreverspin's typical sub-2 minute average spin time. My Damascus steel version is easy to get 1.5-2 minute spins from, but over 2 minutes is a challenge. Part of the reason is that tapered and narrow stem; tops that perform better will commonly have a larger, textured stem or a knurled grip at the top of the stem, either of which allow you to firmly grip the top and easily get off a good spin. For no more than $40, the Jefferson or Yakima "Hops" tops from Northwest Tops, the Spark from Billetspin (coming to Indiegogo late August), Spin Monkey (new maker, on Amazon) are just a few examples of good entry-level tops that will spin at least 5 minutes. I personally have seen as much as 6-minute spins from a Hops top and 13 minutes from the Spark (I won this prior to the official release) on a cheap double-concave glass lens. I have no doubt that the Spin Monkey top will also give a 5-10 minute spin, but I don't personally own one yet. A prudent move before purchasing a top is to join the Pocket Top Talk group on Facebook, and solicit some opinions there.

ambressThank you for your comments. Could not agree with you more. Part of me is angry that I spent so much money on these and also why so many people continue purchasing them and falling into the same remorse as us. Goes to show that eye candy often gets the sale over function.
