Hi, I have doubts between buying fostex thx00 ph or focal lear. I currently have a technical audio ws1100 and I want to take a leap to a more high range. I also had the opportunity to try the Hifiman 400s and I did not like them, then I tried Hifiman 1000 and it was spectacular, all the frequencies seemed when they corresponded my audiotechnica now sounded obviously aprende (entry level). Then what I am looking for is something that presents all the frequencies when it corresponds and with a good extension of these. It will be the focal elear or fostex the one that more approaches the hifiman he 1000 , keeping proportions and consederations in the price. Thank you

OsvaldoMVA Focal Elear would probably be the closest sounding as it follows most closely to the HE1000 from a frequency response perspective. The Elear should have better detail and speed as well, even compared to a Lawton Audio dampened TH-X00PH which is a noticeable improvement over stock. I have not heard any Focal's but would love to.

OsvaldoMVI also haven't tried any Focal headphones yet, eagerly awaiting the Elex. I enjoy the purple hearts but they are more fun than accurate and can be muddy at times (the Lawton tune up helps with this). You will probably be happier with Elears based on their reputation for detail and accuracy.
If you purchase Elears from a dealer that allows returns, you could always send them back if you don't like them.

OsvaldoMVI do own both the modded Purplehearts with driver dampening with Ori pads and just got the Focal Elear. I really like the Elear but there’s something funky with the treble as it sounds very splashy to me. it also could be my source as I run them through a Lyr2 and Jot. Haven’t tried my Project Ember yet but that’ll be tonight. To my ears, they’re quite different in their presentations but as Vracer states, the Elear are more clean, more detailed, faster and dynamic. They do not have the bass impact of the Purplehearts, actually not even close. They have a great mid bass bump which gives them much warmth compared to the PH’s. They’re also very dynamic. I just can’t get past that splashy treble though and it’s an issue with me. Overall they’re a very solid HP and I just need to mess with my sources to see if I can do something with the treble.
