I'm looking at these or the th-610 for a better bass response than the hd6xx (which I love for rock, acoustic, country and some pop, however the bass response falls a little short for me on newer pop, hip-hop, and electronica) I have heard the x00 have more bass overall than the 610 but I really hesitate to spend $400+ on cans without a detachable cable. How difficult or expensive would it be to recable the x00 and is that worth the headache/expense over the 610s if my goal is abundant yet very precise bass within an overall accurate recreation of my music?

Dmt37Have not heard a TH610 (would absolutely love to), but from what I've seen online the main difference in it and a TH-X00 is the highs, they are more laid back. Bass should be fairly similar.
For converting Denon AH series or Fostex TH series to detachable cable, Peterek is highly recommended:

The TH-X00PH is absolutely stellar when it comes to precise, clean, high impact with deep reaching bass... but not when stock. You will want to add the Lawton Audio Tune-up kit driver housing dampening (NOT ANY OF THE CUP DAMPENING PIECES) at a minimum, but ZMF Ori Lambskin pads plus making custom attenuators (very easy to do) which go inside the ear hole really will make the audio quality top notch. Turns the TH-X00PH into a near top end headphone. Comfort is also REALLY nice with the Ori pads, better than the Jmoney V3 lambskins I use on my PH.

Ori pads are currently available on Massdrop for a discount, 2 days left: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/zmf-pads-for-fostex-and-audeze
I recently heard my coworker's HD6XX on my rig for two days, and for bass there is no comparison. While the HD6XX is great in the bass, it is not modded TH-X00PH special... Foster Biodyna bass/sub-bass is a special thing. Surprisingly, the two were VERY close in their mids and highs (prefer overall mids on the PH's [more forward, clearer, just as detailed, but very lush and rich sounding] and some aspects of the highs better on the HD6XX [slightly better detail and speed]).

VRacer111Thank you for the detailed response. I will continue to look around while saving up and I will certainly get fostex of some kind. I plan on using them for the less soundstage dependant music as the 6xx does that quite well being open. Whatever model I go with I will certainly look into the cable mod and the earpads. I really appreciate the insight.

VRacer111Wait just to clarify, so you only used the driver dampening portion (the hard black strips that tapes on) and ignored all the earcup dampening (leather looking portion and foam are all omitted), then on top of it you used the ZMF Ori pads + custom attenuators?
Is the custom attenuators similar to idea to the attenuation rings from Dekoni? Something like this? https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/91K6fXZJdbL._SY606_.jpg
Can you describe what the Lawton portion do also what the ZMF portion do?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm interested in the mod but don't want to drop that much money in before I understand what each does.
Thanks in advance!

HydeCorrect, none of the ear cup pieces should be used if you like stock bass impact and level of a TH-X00... reduces the bass too much and shoves it back in the mix. Basically the driver dampening gives a noticeable improvement in detail, clarity, extension, and instrument separation. Lyrics that were hard to understand will be much clearer and more upfront along with little details that weren't prominent before.
The earpads and custom attenuator also determine impact and extension, and provide a little improvement to detail and clarity as well. The custom attenuators are similar to the Dekoni's, but different. They go inside the pad, not underneath like the Dekoni's and are not an 'O' but 'C' shaped. See link below for more detail.

VRacer111Thank you for the detailed review. :D
I currently own the E-Mu Teak and Rosewood cup. The Teak lacks treble and bass extension while the Rosewood lacks soundstage. Which it will sound different than Purpleheart but I'll play around with the mod see if it helps any of them haha.
Thanks!

VRacer111Man I'm following your lead on the suggestions. Just bought the Lawson kit, Ori pads and my headphones arrive next week. Pretty excited to add these to my collection!
