NomorewoodWhy would lead be used in headphones? Generally, the framework is steel and the voice coil is copper. Lead would only contribute unnecessarily to the weight.

pordssam89Indicating China makes low-cost items does not imply all China's products are garbage any more than saying everything Walmart sells is cheap, even though Walmart is known for marketing low-cost goods.
Switzerland is known for high-quality watches. China is not. Italy is known for exotic sports cars. China is not. Germany is known for precision tools. China is not. Japan is known for cutting-edge robotics. China is not. There are additional examples, but I pause for brevity.
Saying forty-dollar watches are available from China doesn't preclude getting an awesome watch from China. It just means China is more known for affordable items. Audio-gd, for example, is a Chinese company that makes very high-quality amplifiers and DACs.

If anyone has any doubts about the quality of a Chinese product, please listen to a pair of HE-6 headphones, or practically any other pair from HiFiMAN. If you ignore your negative expectation bias of Chinese products, you won't be disappointed. I guarantee it.

SnoopchickenHifiman is hardly a great example of high quality products, pertaining quality control particular. They are infamous for their QC issues. (Driver failure, channel imbalance, etc.) Sound may be great, but many will experience problems with their products.

SnoopchickenThe calculus for the HE-6 and some other headphones, like AKG, is a little different and therefore does not lend itself to direct comparison. These headphones represent models of non-Chinese companies who impose strict, mandatory guidelines when manufacturing in China.
I should add that I have high expectations for the Fostex TH-X00 even though it may be manufactured in China. I believe the TH-900 is much more expensive.

ErixOf course it lends itself to direct comparison. Most products we (i.e. consumers in North America and Europe) talk about that are made in China are parented by non-Chinese companies and guidelines, and Fostex is no exception. The criticism against being made in China was likely made regardless of the parent company's location or guidelines. Indeed, I'm sure the general public would view a pair of Nike shoes made in China to be of lesser quality than a pair made in America. Of course, that is something I disagree with.

SnoopchickenA direct comparison cannot be made because exactly that which is being compared is different by definition. Foreign companies impose there own quality control standards. Once the standards are mandated in this way, they cease to be Chinese standards.

ErixThis is not what the person I initially addressed was arguing about though. He was simply saying "Made in China" means the product is of poor quality, which I counter-argued by giving an example (and I can easily find various others). "Made in China" doesn't mean "limited to Chinese standards," I think we can agree on that. The person my comments were addressed towards would likely not agree.

ErixI completely agree with this last post you wrote. In fact, I have the NFB-1DAC and the NFB-1AMP driving my HE-6 and it's certainly high-quality. Irrespective of your posts afterwards, it does imply that you believe products from China are low-quality (at least on a certain level).
