I see a lot of recommendations for dac/amps for a PC but can anyone recommend a Portable dac/amp to go with this? I listen to music mostly on my phone (Nexus 6p) and sometimes on the surface pro. I see recommendations for the Oppo HA-2, TEAC HA-P50 and Fiio E18. I have an external battery charger already, so getting a dac/amp with or without one would not be a factor. It seems like the Oppo HA-2 is the better of the 3 (from the research i've done) but wanted to see fi anyone had another recommendation.
Thank you for your help.

xxzgmfx20axxOf the 3 you've listed, I'd go with the HA-2, but the best portable DAC to use with a mobile phone or laptop would have to be the Chord Mojo, although it's significantly more expensive ($599). If you're staying in the $200 price range, just go for the Oppo, you should be fine.

xxzgmfx20axxThese are going to be very impractical for portable use. The size, weight, delicacy of wood finish, 10ft fixed heavy cable and 1/4 inch jack all put these squarely in the home use only category.

Demi9ODI use headphones in the office (6-8 hrs x 5 days) and unfortunately the computers block out every usb connection and no downloads allowed unless my IT dept gives access. I was going to buy a 1/4 to 3.5mm and I know the cable is very long/heavy, but i've seen a few people redo their cables to make it shorter.
At home, i use my computer speakers or sync to my tv to play music. I am not looking to walk down the street or sit a on bus/train and have these on.
I do appreciate your comment in educating me as I am new to audiophile community.

xxzgmfx20axxAh, that's a much more reasonable use case. I've not done any research on USB DAC/amps that will work with Android. I do remember reading the headphone out on the Nexus 6P was relatively low powered compared to other phones so you're going in the right direction looking for an amp.

xxzgmfx20axxI agree with xxzgmfx20axx that the Hugo Mojo is an excellent DAC/AMP. I tested this for a week and using a good source and a pair of decent cans and you will be pleasantly surprised of the quality of this device. I use the Hugo Chord in my Home Headphone system using both Hifiman HE1000 and HE500; sounds great. Signature of the Mojo is quite like the bigger brother Hugo and can also drive power hungry phones like planarmagnetic types.

Cocomusicnutsit was actually "echineko" that mentioned that. how does the hugo mojo compare to the grace m9XX? I was looking at that and realized i technically could use that in the office since it doesnt require to be connected into a computer. Just not sure if i am able to connect that to my nexus 6p. This seems portable enough for me to bring it to the office and back home.

xxzgmfx20axxM9xx does not have a battery but should work OTG if you use the power adapter

xxzgmfx20axxMy bad. I don't have the Chord Mojo right now to compare, but I would say both are very good driving all kinds of headphones in a very good way (soundwise). The Mojo is far better portable having its own power whereas the Grace m9xx is powered via USB. In short Mojo is better for phone use and Grace works beter for use with a computer.

Cocomusicnutsits all good. I am just worried that the Mojo's battery will have a shorter lifespan eventually as i continue to use it and charge it. the portability of the mojo is definitely great. going to be a hard choice. i guess i will see which one comes out on massdrop first join the drop or just buy them both.
thank you all for your feedback.

xxzgmfx20axxI have m9xx and I'm loving it. I have been using it with my laptop, iPhone and tv (optical). I have tried it with an andriod device too . Having no battery to me is a plus because I don't have to worry about the battery dying. I think though I haven't tried is you can run it under "low power" (get power from source) and you don't need external power. Since you already have a power bank, no need to get one with battery. Build and quality of m9xx is top notch too.

xxzgmfx20axxIf the Mojo is in your budget, just get it, you won't regret it.

CliffCriI appreciate it, but that is not necessary. I would be using it in the office which I can just plug into the wall for power. I might test the external battery + m9xx myself to see how that goes. I am leaning towards the m9xx over the mojo since I will be more at a desk and that the th-x00 is not really portable (to walk in the street/bus/train). I have my etymotic research earphones for that purpose :)

xxzgmfx20axxI've use external battery/power when I'm at home and works great.
I'm in the hunt for good close headphone too for office use. Hard to bite on this without much review. Would you mind sharing your shortlist? Was excited with DT1770 came out however reviews weren't great so I pass. I like TH900 and MrSpeaker Ether C but its over my 1k budget.
