Hey everyone,
Thanks for flagging the bubble wrap marks. We’ve been collecting tickets and are handling them as they come in, but just wanted to more visibly address people’s concerns. It seems the lacquer finish must have been in contact with some bubble wrap in transit to assembly which blemished some units to varying degrees. If any of you are noticing your ear cups have some of these marks, then please contact Community Support so they can help you with getting a replacement.
Alternatively and unofficially, I have run into this problem in the past with a few wood keyboard cases and there are a few solutions if you would prefer to do a bit of polishing in place of waiting for a replacement. I was able to remove them from the keyboard case with a microfiber cloth and some gentle rubbing, but have not yet tried it with the purplehearts which have a more lacquered finish.* I have heard for “pack marks” on things with more of a piano finish, that using an automotive polish like 3M Imperial Microfinishing Compound works wonders. @KTMD also had success using a rubbing alcohol pad and some furniture polish(https://www.massdrop.com/buy/fostex-x-massdrop-th-x00-purpleheart-headphones/talk/496380).
Again, this is just if you want to try something on your own, but our recommendation is contacting Community Support to resolve the issue.
edit: I wanted to caveat that I've only personally tried this on the wood keyboard case. Once a pair from this batch shows up in this office I will play around with removal methods if they have some marks.

AlexPkThe alcohol wipes helped remove the grease left over, and the polish helped minimize the appearance of the bubbles/imperfections. You have to be careful though. Don't use acetone, it will eat through the finish. The alcohol should be removed immediately to stop the lacquer from clouding. Overwiping with any soft cloth will leave microscratches too in lacquer. So be careful! Less is better.

AlexPkThank you for putting our hearts and minds at ease Dennis Reynolds! You've Demonstrated the value of these headphones with the MSRP, Engaged us with their physical sexiness, Nurtured dependence in our long 4+ month wait, Neglected us emotionally for a few days while we waited for a response to this issue, and now Inspired hope that this bubble-wrap problem, is in fact, overblown. What's next? Separating us entirely from the headphones that we've fallen hopelessly in love with?

AlexPkAny idea when the remaining PH orders are going to ship? The previous update said early this week.

roscI can only see the shipping status on the backend, but looks like they should be out and on their way.

AlexPkI see. Should I put in a support ticket to get tracking info / status updated from "ORDER PLACED WITH THE VENDOR"?

AlexPkHow about addressing the elephant in the room and respond to the dozens and dozens and dozens of us that have been vocal about where our orders are. You see...it's impossible to tell whether or not our new headphones have "bubble-wrap" issues because we don't have our freckin orders!!!!

KTMDI received mine yesterday but was too knackered after work to open it up assuming it's going to be fine. Unbelievable given the 4-5 months' wait, right? My first headphones with wood cups. Should have known. Now with people reporting blemishes and marks, I'm quite worried. :( Can't wait to open it up after work today. Fingers crossed!

orlanderlvLooks like yours is on its way to Nevada and the rest are on their way to everyone. We're working with DHL to increase the granularity and transparency of their tracking info to help with this problem.

roscHmm I would give it a little more time. I'll look into it but I suspect the tracking info isn't updating great.

AlexPkSorry to badger you on here, just wondering if you've got any tips how i can fix up the blemish on the slider housing and cup arms? I would put a ticket in for a replacement but being in the UK, it would end up being a lot of hassle with customs and potentially more custom charges and handling fees.

Snowy87No problem. I can imagine customs is a hassle. Is the blemish on the surface or is it a scratch/groove? If that white stuff is on the surface, I might try the simplest thing first with just a lint free or microfiber cloth and a little water.

AlexPkI tried a microfiber cloth as my first instinct was that it was the backing of a label, it improved it a bit and its less white, however it has left a slight impression on the surface, it almost feels and looks like a finger print would if you touch wet paint and let it dry.
Thanks for the quick reply :)

Snowy87Sounds like maybe it's a bit of oil or adhesive residue. I would try a little rubbing alcohol if it's on the plastic part of the headband. I hope it's not etched into the plastic.

AlexPkIt is on the plastic part, I'll pick some up from the store tomorrow and give it a go. Thanks again for the reply.
P.S I've seen a lot of complaints on here about DHL would just like to throw my two cents in the hat, that for me it worked and tracked pretty great (box damage aside, but that happens when things a shipped such long distances). There wasn't a moment where I didn't know where my parcel was, So thanks for that too :-)

Snowy87My pleasure! Let me know if it works out. Also, I'm glad DHL worked out for you. I've also had pretty good luck with it, but always appreciate both points of view.

AlexPkCAUTION: Do not for a second believe that you can remove the bubblewrap smudges with elbow grease. I tried this before posting, and in my first email to massdrop about the issue (which they responded to in a very timely manner, I might add), I made it extremely clear that this did not work.
Do NOT damage your beautiful Purplehearts by applying force. Like KTMD said, even the softest cloth will scratch.
