Many seem to enjoy complaining about some great 400 dollar headphones. Oi, time to get over it. Fix your problem or sell them. You did your research, you know what you were getting into. #893 here, with bubble wrap marks (which i don't give a shit about), reporting back after a week of burn-in. Im extremely happy with the sound signature of these PH´s, yesterday put some Vangelis Blade Runner DSD on, wow! Then, some St Martin-in-the-fields Orchestra, old/new jazz, prog rock, metal. Its like whatever i throw at it sounds brilliant, well placed, strong. Really, so much better than my 300 dollar PSB M4U2s, and they won awards everywhere. My thinking is, for a 100 dollars extra, i got a lot more punch. Thanks MD, for not having me spend 1200 on the TH900. Now i got a wooden cup fostex for 400. Happy happy joy joy. If someone reads this and is on the fence, get them second hand from all these people on here that thought they weren't going to be made in China. Thats a win/win right there. Bye!

Jeroen_hI have some 200€ headphones with a much better built quality (but Japan made). My headphone has several issues and in the end I'm not happy with that ... bubble wrap marks, varnish chipping, slanting fostex logos, twisted cables which can't be untangled because they're fixed. Normally I would wait for cup replacement but the cable issue is a no go for me. Can't use the headphones properly so I decided to send them back for refund. It is about the principle and that's not ok for me ... so I'm going to send them back and ordered the Fostex TH-610 today and will give them a listen ;) Besides that a huge compliment for the Massdrop Support!!! Thanks again folks (:

MartinMcFlyOh hey I have the twisted cables too. You and I are the only ones I've heard of with that issue. I'm waiting for a replacement for mine. Too bad you couldn't have kept the x00's a little longer and compared them to the 610's side by side. But yes I agree that MD support is doing a pretty good job of handling a terrible quality control job by Fostex.

PieceOfTauI'm going to send my x00 back next week and hopefully I'll get my 610 in the meantime because I really would like to compare those two. I guess the x00 PH are more the fun headphones and the 610 are more neutral, analytical ... but that's only a speculation ;)

PieceOfTauReceived my TH-610 (#0092) today and now I was able to campare it with my TH-X00 Purpleheart. Haven’t tested the X00 in detail because I was waiting for my 610 replacement. (Have a few Audio Technica and AKG but I'm not really motivated to integrate them to this short and unprofessional review. haha) Regarding the 610 packaging: You’ll get your 610 bedded in foam material in a noble box with very nice silver foil hotprint within a glossy and printed box WITHIN a sturdy box with several infos and serial number and so on WITHIN another shipping box. This is what it should be if you order >400USD head phones. The X00 packaging looks very lausy and poor compared to that classy 610 packaging. With the 610 packaging you really have the feeling that you've bought Premium head phones. The black walnut wooden cups with the matt finish look awesome and the detachable cable connection is useful and future-oriented … everything else looks the same to me. I prefer the matte finish more because it’s less prone to scratching because I use my head phones hard and heavy ;) Now we come to the most important point: The Sound. The X00 are killer and so well balanced, unbelievable. I’m no pro at this but I try to give you a little insight: As already mentioned the X00 are really awesome head phones. No question, the 610 aren’t bad and they’re also very nice headphones but the X00 are very well and better balanced. The X00 bass is a little bit stronger, it has more volume and it sounds warmer. But nothing bad so far. People who are thinking that the X00 bass is too heavy will be happy with the 610. To me the PH are much more fun to play. My only but largest criticism on the 610 are the upper, higher sounds … hmm ... the shrill tones if you know what I mean. They are way tooo high and too sharp for my ears. Some kind of pain compared with the X00. Besides all the issues on my headphones (bubble wrap marks, varnish chipping, slanting fostex logos, twisted cables) the X00 SOUND is fu**ing worth all the money.
Regarding the "twisted cable" issue with my X00 Purpleheart: I was able to untangle the cables. Many many thanks to @mmlogicr for his advice. removed the screws and everyhting worked very well (: The cable issue was the the cherry on top to me. haha. but the cable issue is gone ... yeah

MartinMcFlyThanks for the comparison. I googled images of fostex logos on different phones and they are slanted in all kinds of ways even on the th900, some are parallel with the headband, some with the pins on the sides, some with neither.

Paturikkuah, I understand. it's not an issue ...it's a kind of artistic freedom ;)

MartinMcFlyThe Fostex logo is slanted because when you wear the headphone, the headband is not 100% vertical, it is slanted forward a bit on your head... thereby the Fostex logo will be parallel to the ground once you have the headphone on your head. My 900's are slanted a bit as well and look fine when worn. Use a mirror and you should see what I am talking about.
