xXXedgelordxXxLol if you don't know why these are the price they are I suggest spending more time learning about audiophile headphones and equipment before you go throwing money at this. If I say closed, open, semi open, or planar, dynamic, electrostatic, and nothing comes to mind these aren't the headphones you are looking for.
Ok ribbing aside these are closed back headphones that will provide you with performance that might make you mess your pants if you have a good audio source. I suggest checking out Z Reviews on Youtube he's a wealth of information when it comes to headphones, amps, dac's, etc. You can also reach out to someone like myself who would be happy to guide you towards headphones that you will love and fit your budget.
Seriously though check out Z Reviews on Youtube and in the description of his videos go to his reddit page where he has guides that will help you choose headphones.

Ospreybravo18YESSSSS, Z Review is the man to go too about headphones. Unfortunately he is really bad for my wallet. In 6 months I bought the Jotenheim, Emotiva 5S powered monitors, DarkVoice 336i, SMSL Sanskrit 6th gen, HD650s, Fostex T50Rp mkIIIs, and these TH-X00 Purplehearts.
Watch At Your Own Risk lol.

xXXedgelordxXxThey're completely different headphones, these are closed back, different manufacturer, different driver, completely different sound signature, nothing is similar, you're asking whether a porche is the same as a bentley here, same in the fact that they're both a car, but that's it.

AudioNoobsterI have a pretty tight leash on my wallet it took me 2 years after purchasing my DT990's to buy myself a Audioengine D1, some Mk3's, and now the Purplehearts all in this past month.... *shrugs* Now all I'm missing is a pair of open as hell headphones (which I don't need because my DT990's are quite open...but... you know...).

Ospreybravo18Oh i know, I'm rocking the Sennheiser HD650s for my open headphones and highly recommend them. I've never had the privilege to try out the 600s or 700s, but after watching Z Reviews, I felt the 650s would be a good fit for me. Kinda makes it difficult to try out a bunch of headphones when the only audiophile you know is yourself lol. If you are really looking to splurge though the Audeze LCD series....I mean do I even have to comment on how gorgeous they are? Or the Ethers by MrSpeakers? I feel with the open series headphones the options are many.
Unfortunately for me, I now have the DarkVoice 336i and paired with my HD650s its phenomenal. However, I've already purchased new tubes lol. Thankfully this is a cheaper alternative to buying high quality headphones. $50 for two new tubes and keeping my HD650s in use. Love it.
I actually enjoy the tube sound more than the solid state amp with the HD650s. Drops the highs a bit and everything sounds so warm. I wouldn't say I'm treble sensitive, but my ears do fatigue when listening to the HD650s for long periods of times because it can just bring out the clearest highs from the vocals. My issue is the 5 decibel drop in bass, even though the HD650s aren't bass cans, its still a noticeable drop so I bought a pre-amp tube that SHOULD bring the bass back a bit, I'm curious to find out. Either way, it is an amazing pairing. I don't believe the Fostex Purplehearts will work and I know the mk3s don't work well. Bass is bloated and doesn't sound good, also has something to do with the Mk3s being low impedance. There are mods to the DarkVoice to fix this issue, but eh, I'm okay without it for now.

AudioNoobsterIf I splurge it's going to be on the STAXX in Japan they have the full Sennheiser lineup up to the 800's as well as STAXX, Beyerdynamic, Fostex T500RP, Audio Technica lineup (love the 1000x), etc it's amazing so I have an idea of what I want thanks to spending a good amount of time listening to headphones in the store.
