If you pay me for a steak dinner and get a hamburger dinner blame the fine print. Doesn't get much more obvious but in todays upside down world: wrong is right, right is wrong. Being truthful is turned into being a liar using smoke and mirrors. Deception leads to riches. Something I totally disagree with.

kathleen7700I looked at your photos. You are absolutely right Kathleen. I'd be pissed too. It's 2nd-rate product being slapped together and shoved out the door as quickly as possible.
Why customers feel the need to defend companies like this one is beyond me. What ever happened to the notion of the "critical consumer"? This generation was not taught that important lesson, so apparently they will have learn it the hard way.

RV-4Thank you, I think you are the first to agree with me. I wish MassDrop would be fair about it,, could have ended it long ago by posting my pictures side by side comparison. Plain as day, black and white. Bait and switch, passing off A for B. Has nothing to do with venting and all the other garbage mentioned. Has every thing to due with Bait and Switch tactics.
That being said, MassDrop has offered me a refund. In addition to finally plugging them in today for the first time and really enjoying them. I don't have a problem practicing what I state. Sound was never the issues though. Cosmetic defect was the issue. Fostex and their phones was never the issue, although if I were Fostex I would question whether this practice is worth the income versus their established reputation.

kathleen7700Uh here I'll try to stay as neutral and fair as much as I can here.
As people stated the gap's been around since forever, it's Fostex design. My Denon AH-D2000 has it, I even bought the wooden cup from E-Mu and slap it on my Denon yet the gap still persist. The Denon I bought it from a local dealership, the E-Mu wooden cup I bought it directly from them from Singapore, so none of this has anything to do with Massdrop, it's Fostex design. Massdrop made $0 on me regarding this matter.

This portion is FACT, Fostex designed it that way.
I guess your other argument is that in the Massdrop pictures it did not show the gap properly, I just went through all the pictures they posted, a lot of them are super high resolution pictures that shows the gap clearly. So I don't think they were intentionally hiding it. But yes there might be a chance you missed it but it's normal, so I'll give you credit here.
In this case there are 2 possible scenarios:
1) You don't like the gap, then it's not Massdrop's fault, it's Fostex design. 2) You think Massdrop lied about the gap, I don't think they were sneaky about it, I can clearly see it in most of their pictures.
So at this point you can either:
1) Accept that the gap is part of the design, it helps the acoustic and air flow. By having the gap it makes this headphone semi-open. 2) Do not accept the gap, then at this point you got something you do not want. Which is fine, life happens sometimes, then I'd just get a refund and buy a different headphone and move on.
As for the steak and burger analogy, I think this is more along the line of looking at the steak but the steak looks different than the picture from the restaurant menu, and demand they mis-interpreted the steak. I'm pretty sure they tried their best to have the item as accurate as possible, but sometimes the steak just will not come out exactly the same way it look like from the menu pictures.
Again, life happens, we all tried our best. Hope this gets resolved.
Cheers !

HydeIt is being resolved with MD which I don't understand why everyone feels the need to give their two cents. Pictures posted are clear as day, and different as night and day. In none of the pictures from MD do i see any unfinished, unstained (white mahogany) exposed. Majority of photos hide the gap from the angle they were taken at. Gap is finished in photo where it is shown, gap is nowhere near the width in their photos as the gap on the ones I received.
Thanks for your opinion.
