FuhriousMy elite sheepskin pads & attenuation rings arrived earlier this week. Definitely a huge improvement in comfort and they make a much better seal around my ears. Very happy with the purchase.
piercjenkinsThe pads themselves definitely seem to isolate external sound better. The only way I can explain the difference with attenuation rings is that they seem to clean up and focus the sound a bit. It's definitely a subtle change based on my experience. The pads and rings combined somewhat accentuated the TH-X00's strengths.
piercjenkinsThose pics are from @Fuhrious. They definitely look like the Dekoni TH-X00 Elite Sheepskin pads to me. The TH-900 pads have a larger and more round opening for the ears.
RiflemanFirstthanks, how did you go about installing the attenuation rings. I have the Mahogany set coming in the mail and I haven't made any changes, but I'm thinking a ZMF Pilot pad and new earpads too... just don't want to change they way they sound (I've heard some pads ruin the way the TH-X00 sounds).
piercjenkinsThey slip right into the ear pads and then you put the attachment rings on top of them. Pretty straightforward and they come with instructions if you somehow get lost.
RiflemanFirstI'm leaning toward the th-x900 ear pads with the x00 attenuation rings. Do you know if these will keep it pretty close to stock (or have you read anywhere about this combo)? It's either that or ZMF Eikon Pads with the x00 attenuation rings. So many options!
piercjenkinsCan't speak for the TH-900 pads since I've never used them. If you want to keep the sound close to stock, I suggest using the TH-X00 pads. The TH-900 pads would be a better option if you have big ears though.
RiflemanFirstI don't have huge ears. I would say Thayer pretty normal size, not small for sure though.
Unfortunatley the thx-00 dekoni pads are only available through massdrop. ideally I'd use the perforarted ones, but sonce they aren't available I was trying to find the next best thing. One things for certain after reading a few hundred pages of a head-fi thread on these; whatever I decide, I need to use the attenuation rings to have the most stock-like experience.
piercjenkinsDekoni TH-X00 pads + attenuation ring comes the closest to the stock sounds. To most, it sounds identical. I have a bit more sensitive ears and for me, it ended up making the headphones sound much more closed, which I ultimately didn't like as much as the stock sounds. Currently, I am still using the stock pads, but I may explore the Dekoni and ZMF Ori pads that I have as well.
piercjenkinsHonestly, I am still deciding. I am working on printing attenuation rings of different openings, thicknesses, and other designs to see if I can tune the pads to the stock sound/open-ness as I love the way they feel.
