Hey guys, I am new to the audiophile scene, what makes these head phones so good? So many people have purchased this and I would like to know if these head phones are good for a student to carry around or are they more of use when sitting at a computer for a long period of time?

IAmPyhrraDo not get these if you want headphones for public use. They're only partially closed-back, they have a 1/4" plug, the cable is 10' long, and you really don't want to risk dropping them on the ground. These can be used for general computer use but they're primarily meant for listening to music while sitting in a quiet environment.

IAmPyhrraOf course there are people who modded it to be detachable cables, the sound leak is there, but not horrible. I wouldn't take them on the go as you could easily chip them. Otherwise they are good, just if you are look for soundstage better go for other options.

IAmPyhrraTo expand on @I_Need_Money's answers...
1. " They're only partially closed-back" - They are closed back completely, not partially. By design though, they DO leak sound a bit, but not as much as some people think. 2. "They have a 1/4" plug" - This is true, but you can get an adapter for it or terminate it to a 3.5mm jack. I strongly advise against using the cheapo Monoprice adapter that it comes with. 3. "The cable is 10' long, and you really don't want to risk dropping them on the ground" - The cable is long, but you can braid it, tie it via cable wrap or velcro, or mod it to be shorter.

amoeba1126The main issue with the 1/4" adapter is that it's really big. If you have it plugged into your phone or laptop using that adapter, it will only take one good bump to just destroy the 3.5mm jack.

I_Need_MoneyWhich is why I specifically said to not use the one that comes with the TH-X00. :) I urge people to buy the one by Hosa or Sennheiser which is not only cabled, but a right angle connector as well. This takes the weight out of the adapter and right angle connector further minimizes the risk of impact damaging the small 3.5mm connector port.

IAmPyhrraI'd go with a good pair of IEMs for travel. Even if you get an expensive pair they're not as likely to be damaged if you drop them simply by virtue of being lighter and therefore not hitting the ground as hard.

BlueCrownedyeah, however the signature of iem never extend bass like these cans, there are better choices for on the go, like IEM or lighter and perhaps a fashion grade can.

FukuroI use Skullcandy if I don't want to use IEM for things like walking the dogs because they're cheap and they don't sound half bad for what they are.

FukuroI also collect Skullcandy for the aesthetic. Which is probably dumb to audiophiles but I like them, so /shrug
