Sooo, I love these MD partnered builds across all of the communities. However, nobody seems willing to concede that a spade is a spade regarding these headphones. What's going on with the bands breaking off around the cups of the headphones? Has MD addressed this? Has Fostex addressed this? There is a lot of people that have this issue. Apparently, this issue has occurred around a year into owning a pair. If you buy a $400 car and it breaks down after a year, I wouldn't be surprised. But if you buy a $400 pair of headphones and it breaks after a year, that's a ripoff. I hope this problem was fixed or at the very least addressed, because this issue is what stopped me from joining this drop now.

I know some people here have mentioned running into that issue. Mine are the first drop TH-X00 and they are still perfectly fine, so there is that to consider. Personally, I have a few questions in regards to those noticing the joints snapping.
- Where do you store your headphones? - How do you keep your headphones when traveling? A case, just its pouch, throw in backpack? - Have they ever fell on the ground? - Did you feel them wobbling before they broke? - Do you press the headphones against your head for better sealing?
Please keep in mind I am not saying the people that this issue happened to are doing something wrong. Rather, I am just looking for any patterns of what might case something like this to happen.

AlexBuysThingsMate most of the time it's just people not being too careful with their stuff which leads to them breaking it. I've had so many headphones in my life and never have I once had any headphone break while I was using it. Also, been using the Purplehearts X00 for like 6 months now, no issues, no scratches, everything is in pristine condition. I've also modded my X00s and took them apart many times, and they're still holding perfectly fine. Just my two cents ;)

AlexBuysThings The dome surrounding the cup that holds it is plastic. Just try to be very careful with these headphones. Honestly though, if it does happen to break on you, just fix it with a screw, nut and bolt. You shouldn't have to though, considering a 400 dollar pair of headphones should have an all-metal design in obvious weak points. My purple hearts broke this way too, even though I am extremely careful with them and i put these headphones in a Beyerdynamic T1 case every time i'm not using them

AlexBuysThingsYeah I'm with amoeba1126 here, I own a Denon D2000 (discontinued in 2012) I bought it 2nd hand and even after I got it I've used it for about 2 years now and no problem. So at minimum this headphone should be at least 5 years old now (given if it's the last batch before it discontinued).
Though my suspicion is maybe people might be carrying it around or throw it in a backpack? Personally I'd imagine this headphone is best used indoor in a desktop / studio environment (the long cord is an obvious hint). If you carrying a full size headphone around regardless of price (say, HD650 or HE-400S) it most likely will sustain some damage.
Again, not pointing fingers here but I've also never had any headphone breaking on me. Maybeeeee only my first pair of cheapo $60 Sony headphone during college that I throw it in my backpack, that one the plastic band eventually broke. But anything else onward has never been broken.
