Anyone Know how to do a detachable cable mod. Any guides? I picked up a pair of th-600 for cheap. Really want to use them on the go.

ThujanYes I do. I did this mod today on a Beyerdynamic DT880. They are fixed 9 foot cable, single side entry. I modded it to dual entry (detachable). Left side in pic is the entry I created and the right is the hole that was already there (I widened it with a dremel tool. They fit in right and tight, but I glued them (especially the right there) so there would be no air gaps.

This job was super easy and it would turn out even better on a th-x00 because 2.5mm jacks fit very easily into them without too much modification if any.
To do a mod like this you need... 1. soldering iron 2. wire stripping tool 3. glue gun/silicone/plastic to seal 4. dremel tool/file (depends) 5. 2 2.5mm or 3.5mm headphone jacks 6. Continuity tester (to test for L and R and Ground, so u don't fry shit or solder it wrong)
Steps 1. Disassemble your headphones to the lowest level u can 2. Leave the wires soldered to your drivers on there, you can reuse them for the th-x00/600/900 3. cut the wires at the ears and pull them through the casing and out. remove the wire holder(s) snip them so u have a short wire connected to your driver, but with enough length it will be able to reach the jack you're about to put in. 4. try and fit the jack (2.5mm) into the holes where you pulled out the wire. Shouldn't need any if much modification. If you're using a 3.5mm jack, draw a circle and dremel it out, stay within your lines or potentially fuck up your headphone's aesthetic value ;-) (you can hide some blemishes with wide screw downs on the end of your jack). Make sure your driver can sit inside the housing with the new jack inside so you will be able to close the headphone when you are done modding. If you can't you have to make room by dremeling out the insides or by using a different jack/technique of entry. 5. if and once u get it fitted, screw the nut that comes with your jack down onto it's leads. U may want to add some hot-glue or some kind of epoxy to the inside on the jack and against the housing, to prevent it from moving/coming loose. It shouldn't. 6. Use your male connection into one of your jacks, and touch the prongs of your continuity tester (digital/analog multi-meter) to the ends you are going to solder to, and to the respective channels of your TRS jack. When u find continuity you will know that is where the signal will flow through, or the ground. Note these in your head. To make it easier you may want to google how to check continuity in audio applications/soldering or something if you know nothing about it. Oh and make sure you know what prongs on your driver are signal/ground. Typically un-shielded/naked or black wire is your ground but make sure to check with your multimeter so you don't mess things up. 7. Now solder your ground coming from your driver to the ground of your jack. Solder your signal wire to your L or R on your jack. Great job. 8. Repeat the last steps of soldering your jack to the other side of your Headphone. 9. Assuming the soldering is solid and no exposed wire is contacting where it shouldn't be, go ahead and test for continuity or if you are confident plug in that cable to some audio! 10. Close up your headphone and reassemble that puppy if the audio is working good and there is no interference or imbalance going on. If it sounds good seal it up.
PS I own 2 fostex headphones, a th-600 and an Emu teak. I will perform these mods for you if you would like (for a fee).
Enjoy your modded headphones, it's so much better.

ThujanPlease use whatever resources you need to do a clean job, and practice your soldering a bit first. There are some great head-fi threads about headphone modding https://www.head-fi.org/f/articles/diy-cable-info-and-resources.14308/ https://www.head-fi.org/f/forums/diy-do-it-yourself-discussions.6/
