Snagged a pair of these for 320$ on ebay, 30 day return just in case. Currently using he-400i, can anyone who owns both of these comment on the differences, How well/if they complement eachother.
Edit: Just got a partial 75$ refund, which turned this into a fantastic deal for me! Was thinking to return these and get the PurpleHearts, but 250$ is just TOO good! Yay! ! ! !

TheChosenOneI have the original HE-400, and the Purplheart. AKA the v-shaped ones.
Sound Quality, definition, and clarity are similar, but similarities ends there. TH-X00 are warmer and more natural sounding.

TheChosenOneHi Thechosenone. Keen to get you thoughts on these also as I am also coming from a he-400i although it is comparing apples to oranges with open back and closed. I am considering getting these from eBay as well probably from the same seller. Was there an issue with the phones? Why did you get a partial refund? Cheers

Noddyc43 Hi. I was just switching between the two and the TH-X00 makes the he-400i sound like a hollow and boring can. There are some things that the he-400i do better, like slightly better soundstage and a bit clearer mids, but everything else I hear is just better and well, more FUN! I found myself smiling way more when listening to the TH-X00! Also, I find the TH-x00 a tad more comfortable and much easier to drive. I was not able to take anything above 12 o'clock with an SMSL SD793II amp/dac.
I got the refund because one of the cups didn't swivel properly. The right cup swivels about 15 degrees only. I sent a message to the seller and next morning I checked my email to find I received an instant 75$ refund with the option to return them for full refund, but hey it's something I'm positive I can fix, plus I already purchased supplies to make the cable removable. So easy choice really!
If you found yourself wanting more bass when listening to the he-400i, these should fix that and some! Disclaimer: We all hear things differently, so the above are my personal and very subjective observations.

Noddyc43I own both sets as well. They both sound great, bur I greatly admire the comfort of the Hifimen. After owning the He-400i for over a year, I decided to buy leather earpads through Massdrop and they're simply awesome. The sound, with leather earpads, more closely resembles the Fostex, without losing the 'neutral' sound of the Hifimen.
